Dear friends of Hellenic Book Club,
You may have noticed that we've slowed down a bit. We'd like to explain why.
Over the past decade we have been offering Greek Americans high quality books in Greek to encourage our children to read and speak Greek. We even wrote, edited, and published our own bilingual dictionary, Say it in Greek, and its sequel, Say it in Greek 2, the Phrasebook. We started this effort in 2014, and since, we've travelled to many communities and Greek schools around the country to meet many of you and offer up books in Greek that are fun to read and to read aloud. We're proud of our efforts and we want to take this moment to thank all of you who have supported us -- by buying books, helping us spread the word, and hosting us for book bazaars and festivals. We loved doing this and meeting all of you.
But alas, keeping HBC alive and healthy is an uphill battle-- costs have increased, thanks to inflation and rising book and mail costs. It has also been very difficult to recover from the damage done by the Covid shutdown and how it prevented us from continuing our school visits. For these reasons, we are stepping back and not actively marketing the Hellenic Book Club as we have in the past--our catalogs have stopped for some time now, and our book bazaars have diminished and will likely stop altogether by 2025.
That said, we will keep our page on Facebook open and we want you to know that we are always at your disposal to help. We welcome custom orders and we always have a supply of Say it in Greek and Say it in Greek 2 on hand, as well as copies of the Αλφαβηταριο. If you, as a family or your Greek school, need or want books, we will be happy to help you find them and get them to you at the best prices that we can. We can always suggest titles as well.
Thank you again for your encouragement in the past and your support. We love our language. We love books. And we always will.
May the school year be full of successes.
