I brought him home today.
As we left the shelter, he held tightly to a small, ragged toy — his only piece of comfort.
He hasn’t let go since.
Fear still lives in him.
In the way he flinches at sounds.
In the way he folds himself into corners, trying to disappear.
Sometimes he shakes. Sometimes he watches the door, unsure if it’s really over.
But when he rests his head on my lap, his eyes say what words never could:
"Please… let this be home."
And I answer, quietly but with certainty:
It is.
You’re safe now.
You are loved.
And you are never going back.
