African-9-Designs, LLC

African-9-Designs, LLC African-9-Designs (A9D) provides custom African artifacts that embodies the spirit of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and other Divine Nine organizations.

God has given me an opportunity to travel the world. To experience other cultures, to eat at their tables, to play with their children, to dance to the rhythm of their music and to marvel at His creation! When I travel, I like to share those experiences with family and friends. So when I return home, I typically write a brief summary of my trip and provide a small trinket from the country I've vis

ited. While visiting West Africa, I saw art and artifacts that I knew "we" in the states would appreciate. I saw art that was not prominently displayed because it wasn't selling in the market place. Beautiful art! Art that is becoming a lost art because people who travel aren't buying silk thread art in abundance but t-shirts, shot glass, and sometimes small wooden figurines. It was out of this necessity, to resurrect a lost art that African-9-Designs, LLC was birth. To share with African-Americans across the US custom hand-made pieces from the many countries of Africa! In Africa, everything has a meaning and our company’s name shares that value. In the name African-9-Designs: "Africa" represents the ancestral land for the African people; "9" is for the nine regions were descents of slaves were primarily captured and enslaved; additionally, nine represents the African-American Greek organizations that make up the Divine Nine; and finally the word "Designs" represents the influence of African and African-American culture when designing the many artifacts and textiles created by African-9-Designs. "I, too, am America” —Langston Hughes bold reminder that we are not an afterthought — we are the culture, the strength, the rhythm, and the beauty of America. Even when history tried to push us aside, we rise, we shine, and we claim our seat at the table. Not just included. Not just acknowledged. Essential. Powerful. Unapologetically America. 🖤✨

At just six years old, became the first African American child to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South—William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans—in 1960.

Thank you, Ruby Bridges, for your courage and service then and now.

This image has become an enduring symbol of the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for educational equality.
