FKA Idle Time Books

FKA Idle Time Books The former home of Idle Time Books, now called Lost City Books! Lost City Books is the new name and identity of 37 year old Idle Time Books.

An Adams Morgan neighborhood favorite, Idle Time Books changed ownership in January 2019. The new name, Lost City Books, reflects the change of ownership and spirit of the store. Lost City Books will remain a place for the bookworm and the intellectually curious. It will be a bookstore engaged in culture past and present and a place full of unique and rare books.

Don’t Panic! We’re remodeling this month, to return with some shiny new wood floors and fresh new paint. We are planning to reopen the first week of February, but will keep you updated here. Run comrades, the old world is behind you! Ramble on!

If you like the defunct page of this no-longer-called-that bookstore, you will absolutely loooooooove the rarely-used page of the shop under our new name, !

Smash that like button, and check out our instagram for more frequently updated premium content. Please also feel free to write us a nice review on Yelp, for the algorithmic gods have buried all the pleasant ones and left only those written by customers who did not appreciate our salty-at-first-but-ultimately-sweet mien (and wanted to yak on cellphones without comment or intrusion).

See you on the slightly more useful corners of the internet!

Friends of Idle Time: As of today, we have finally gotten our new sign painted and our social media pages up, only six months into running the place. Please like, follow, pray for, and invoke good spirits upon our new home on the internet on Facebook and Instagram!

We are very excited to continue slinging books to the Adams-Morgan community. Most of the things that everyone loves about Idle Time will stay the same (minus Val, but plus a very cool new logo). We will be updating the look of the inside (ie: the carpet) sometime late this summer, but until then your mostly-friendly if charmingly cantankerous local bookshop will operate with normal hours, Monday- Sunday 11a-10p.

Please come thru the shop and say hi to us as Lost City Books!

We happy few, we (remaining) Idle Timers want to wish a giant thanks and bon voyage to Val, who leaves tonight on a jet plane for New Zealand! Salty, sweet, irascible, and fiercely loyal to her friends and her neighborhood, Val steered the ship through some of the toughest waters of gentrification and the Amazonification of the book world. She managed to preserve the legacy of Jacques and old Adams-Morgan for the next generation with good humor and fightin' spirit, and was a hell (and sometimes a hellion) of a boss and mentor. We'll miss her dearly!

Thanks for everything Val, and have fun on the farm 😉

❤️❤️❤️ Idle Time Books ❤️❤️❤️

As you may have heard, Idle Time Books is turning over a new leaf! We will have a new owner in January. We are very proud to have survived and served, with spirit, the Adams-Morgan community for 38 years. Thanks to all our deeply loyal customers, wanderers, and friends who have made the shop what it is. Please feel free to stop by and say bye to Val, and buy books from us in her last few weeks! We'll be open our normal hours during the holidays (11-10 everyday except for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's Eve), and will update everyone if hours will change next year.

Those of us who are staying on are proud and appreciative of Val for fighting the good fight to keep bookstores alive in DC. Rumors of our extinction have been greatly exaggerated.

After 37 years, Idle Time Books in Adams Morgan is getting a new owner committed to its mission.
