The humble lime can be indispensable in our path to a more green lifestyle. Apart from the delicious key lime pies, limeades, margaritas and the zing they add to any food, below are some household uses for limes that will reduce waste.
🍈 Preserve fresh flowers
Add two teaspoons of lime juice, plus one teaspoon each of bleach and sugar to a vase full of warm water. The bleach kills bacteria, the sugar feeds the flowers and the lime juice acidifies the water, keeping your flowers looking perky for long.
🍈 Defunk your microwave
Fill a microwave safe bowl with a half cup of water, two tablespoons of baking soda and half of a lime, then cook on high for about four minutes. Wipe after for a sparkly clean, citrusy smelling microwave.
🍈 Freshen up
Garlic, onions, fish and other ingredients can leave a pungent smell on our hands, garbage and cutting boards. To banish the unsavory odor, scrub your hands with lime juice post-handling, rub lime on the cutting boards and pour some lime juice in garbage disposal.
Consider buying and storing lime in bulk using a reusable bag like our BAMBOO mesh produce bags. Bamboo has so many benefits - an added green bonus!!! 💚
