Sour Cherry Pie Part II -- Years ago when my husband and I rented a house on Macomb St in Washington there was a sour cherry tree in the backyard. The landlord said, it doesn't bear fruit. Well, that year our beloved Martha passed away and we buried her beneath that tree. The following year it burst forth in fruit and I baked a pie. We named it Martha's Pie.

Sour Cherry Pie - Part I. I am delighted at the bounty in my dwarf sour cherry tree this year. I'm not sure why the birds stayed away (mostly) -- might have been the noisy painters, or the swirly gigs that I put up everywhere. But I picked enough today for two 6" pies. Sour Cherry Pie is my all time favorite -- because it's delicious and because it only comes once a year. I'll show the results in Part II. (BTW, there are still a LOT of cherries waiting to ripen, so I think I'll let the neighborhood children have a crack at them.)

ATTENTION GROWERS!! I am putting hundreds of nursery pots and seed starting trays on my curb at 217 Brehon St. I must clean out my side porch by tomorrow. I may not get them all out to the street but you should feel free to help yourself to any in my side screen porch. There is also a canopy there for the taking.

About to harvest my Spring Nettle and make some soup. This is the very best dissertation on this wonderful plant. If you are put off by the "Stinging" don't be. It is actually not bad, short-lived and easily prevented by wearing gloves. The benefits of this plant are legion. I have some seedlings to offer on my website if you are interested in starting your own patch, which I strongly encourage.
