Are you interested in becoming a therapeutic musician? Or are you a therapeutic musician who would like to continue to deepen your therapeutic harp skills? In this workshop we will explore “what is harp therapy?” and how to become a harp therapist. You will learn a simple tune, ideas for arranging it to encourage relaxation, and try some improvisation patterns.

Portia Diwa, Healing Harp Clinical Faculty in the Spiritual Care Department at California Pacific Medical Center, has been teaching and providing harp therapy at Sutter hospitals in the Bay Area, CA, since 2007. Portia is a Certified Harp Therapist / Therapeutic Musician through the Bedside Harp Certification Program. She has been playing and performing on the lever harp for over 30 years. A graduate of Santa Clara University, Portia studied harp under the guidance of well-known San Francisco Bay Area harp teacher and performer Diana Stork. Portia teaches a year-long Healing Harp Certification Program, accredited by the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians, which teaches harpists how to become harp therapists. Portia has released 6 CDs, including “Ocean Song,” solo harp music for healing, and “Music from the Labyrinth – From Chartres to Grace,” featuring music arranged by Portia and Diana Stork to encourage contemplative journeys on labyrinths as well as inward journeys of healing and meditation.
