When you want a book to read you!!! Long but insightful post!!!
I have had this book for sometime in an electronic format... could never stick to reading. I decided to order the hard copy and let me just say... this book here makes you look at yourself. Its all about the trap of offense and how it leads to sins such as hatred, bitterness, pride, unforgiveness, etc. When we harbor the pains of our past, and allow those pains to consume us we never heal. We get to a point where our heart hardens and any action that resembles what we didn't heal from becomes a trigger that causes us to weaponize what we didn't heal from against others. Wow... Why do we beat people with hurt and anger from our past hurts. Who hurt you??? I don't know the person who hurt you... or the person you were when you got hurt. This book is good and I'm only in Chapter 1.
One of the declarations says... "I will not allow pride to hold back my willingness to forgive those who may hurt me. I do not have the right to hold onto my hurt."
This declaration prompted a few questions of reflection for me... what makes me think I have the right not forgive others, but want to say God forgive me?? What if God extended the same unforgiveness to me that I give to other people? What if God held onto everytime I went back on my word against me? Here's the gut punch... what if God inflicted the hurt and pain against Him and turned it on me??? Can you imagine having the hurt, pain, and disrespect inflicted on Jesus by others on Calvary weaponized against you??? Ooooh weee!!! I can't imagine it.
If you're ready to be read by a book... grab this one.
