A Season For Quilting

A Season For Quilting Beautiful quilts inspired by the landscape of Vermont! Welcome to A Season for Quilting! My name is Tess Greaves and I am a quiltmaker.

I started sewing as a child and have never stopped for long. But when I found quiltmaking more than 20 years ago, I found my passion…addiction really! I’m blessed to be a native Vermonter with inspiration around every corner. My quilter’s eye for color combinations and design ideas is never disappointed and I have more quilts in my head than time to make them. There’s a quilt or two in every chang

e in season! When I chose a name for my quilt shop, A Season for Quilting was a natural. Every season in Vermont, spring, summer, fall, and winter and mud season, sugaring season, gardening season… offers such a unique range of color. As a result, my quilts are vibrant, intricately designed and practical as well. A Season for Quilting quilts are my original designs and they are all made with high quality materials, are well constructed and durable. I make quilts of all sizes ranging from mini doily and mug rug quilts to queen size bed quilts and Comfy Kids quilted sleeping bags. I welcome custom orders and enjoy working with a client to create a masterpiece just for them.

Hey Tula Pink fans…my Comfy Kids Quilted Sleeping bag pattern now includes instructions for making these cool sleeping bags featuring Tula Pink fabrics!!

I made these samples for two local quilt shops. Country Thyme Vermont’s sample uses fabrics from Tula Pink’s Linework and True Color collections. Kits will be available in 4 color ways.

Quilting With Color’s sample also uses fabrics from the Linework collection combined with bright prints in rainbow colors. Kits will be available here as well.

Any of Tula Pink’s collections alone or in combination with other fabrics would work well. Let your imagination run wild!!

Each kit will include the original pattern and the new supplement. The pattern alone is available in my Etsy shop, https://etsy.me/3DA3yBd and will also include these new instructions.

Hope you visit these quilt shops and check out these sleeping bags in person!

I finished this quilt just in time for Mother’s Day. It’s a present to my Mom that I get to keep in her memory. I started it shortly after she died. Life got in the way and I didn’t make much progress on it. I got back to it on February 27th this year on the 5th anniversary of her passing. It’s my take on northern lights...from the heavens, my Mom’s new home💕

Love you, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day ❤️

Happy Easter quilting friends! I finished this little wall hanging just in time for the holiday. My inspiration came from a drawing my Mom did for my daughter when she was a little kid. I found it in some old papers a few years ago and thought it would make a nice spring quilt. I actually started it then. I finished the hand appliqué block and put it away. It was so long ago, I forgot I’d made it 😂. I found it again the other day and decided to finish it for a nice Easter decoration and memory of my Mom!

I just love, love, love this new line of fabric from Moda. Have you seen it? It’s called Moody Bloom!! It’s soooo beautiful...I knew it would look awesome with my Merry & Bright table runner pattern. I love how they came out!!

I found Moody Bloom fabrics at Sewin Love Fabric Shoppe in Lyndonville and at Vermont Quilter's Schoolhouse in Troy. Check your local shops for more locations if you’d like to make your own.

The pattern is available at my Etsy shop: https://etsy.me/3qFgEGr

Happy wintery Saturday! Just wanted to share what I’ve finished so far in January.

My first 60-degree triangle quilt started out as a background for an appliqué project I had in mind. I decided it was too cool on its own without any additions so I finished it as a wall hanging. I love it and it was such fun to make!!

The baby quilt I’m calling “hide and seek” for the name of the fabric, is a challenge project from the Green Mountain Quilters Guild. This was a quick little project that was also fun to make.

My Etsy shop,
https://etsy.me/2B0vGlA , needed another Valentine’s table runner so I made this one from my Merry & Bright pattern.

I have exciting news! My Merry & Bright table runner pattern is now available from Keepsake Quilting!!!

I made two variations for them. The first, called Vintage Farmhouse, uses the Vintage Farmhouse line of fabric from Hoffman California International. Check this out:

https://www.keepsakequilting.com/Vintage-Farmhouse-Table-Runner-Kit-By-Tess-Greaves-From-A-Season-Of-Quilting?contact_eid=87253b2f-eb70-41f0-beaa-816cbb7fd512&utm_source=bm23&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Table+Runner+Kit&utm_content=NEW!+Visit+the+Vintage+Farmhouse+by+McKenna+Ryan&utm_campaign=051320-VintageFarmhouse&_bta_tid=34775550275476407484548079593487124822003482491505685825135236361341570716738602479531065416989809151239

Photos for this variation were taken at my good friend, Trish Hanson’s beautiful farmhouse. Thanks Trish for the perfect setting and for helping me that day!!

The second uses gorgeous batiks from Timeless Treasures Botanica Park collection. I call this variation, “Blooming Wild.” Check this one out:

https://www.keepsakequilting.com/Blooming-Wild-Table-Runner-Kit-By-Tess-Greaves-Of-A-Season-For-Quilting

This variation had a quick turnaround so the listing doesn’t have multiple photos. The pattern cover is taken in the “wild” of my myrtle patch. If you look really close, you can see the purple flowers!

Spread the word to your quilter friends and maybe even order a kit for yourself!
Thanks!!

Good Morning All,
It’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me but I want you to know I’m still here!

Coronavirus has had a huge impact on all of us. We have all had to figure out how to navigate our new normal. For me, making face masks has given me a purpose, a way to help, keeping me focused on the mask at hand and not dwelling as much on all the bad pandemic news.

The quilter in me gets to use a wide variety of beautiful fabrics and the former production stitcher in me keeps striving to make more each day. Both of these skills have come in handy at this moment and my industrial sewing machine is getting quite a work out!

I’ve made and donated a lot of masks...for family and friends, local hospitals and my community neighbor to neighbor project. I was also asked to help make masks for Cabot Creamery employees. Payment from them and a few donations have funded this effort. To date, my face mask total has surpassed 1,500 since the end of March.

I’ve made masks with ties, pockets and with elastic and recently I made a few fitted masks. The pictures show a sample of each.

I believe wearing a mask is a sign of respect and responsibility to our fellow humans. I appreciate seeing people wearing them. Thank you for doing so. And for those of you who must wear them every day at work, bless you.

The need is still there but has slowed down some so I’ve been able to work on other things in the yard and in the sewing room. It’s likely masks are here to stay for the foreseeable future. I will continue to make them if they are needed. There are many mask makers out there. Shout out to all of you!

Stay well and take care😊
