Tonight from Wolf’s Travels….

“ A Winchendon Wonder!”

Hi Folks!!!

In 1863 John G Folsom began his quest to make beautiful but inexpensive chain stitch sewing machines for the masses! By 1864 Folsom was up and running and had been granted 2 patents!

The 1st patent in 1863 was for Stephen C. Ketchum’s Patent. Which involved the HOOK on the machine working in a reciprocating motion, rather the a rotary motion!

This machine is 100% complete… impressive for a nearly 163 year old machine! No cracks, No breaks, and No repairs… except for some paint correction on a paint chipped area on the bed. All other paint & decorations are original! … and I do believe after 163 years of LIFE… we all might need a little correction! 😊

* April 28, 1863 — Ketchum patent
* March 1, 1864 — Folsom design patent
* May 17, 1864 — Folsom design/mechanical patent

Enjoy!

SOLD!!! $750
Shipping included!!!

Hi Folks!!!

Tonight From Wolf’s Travels!!!

“100% PURE!”

The number 24 has many significant meanings… 24 hours in a day is one! Associations with the goddess Venus, wealth, harmony, compassion and empathy, all relate to the perfect balance of 24, 2+2 is 4! But the most famous association is without a doubt with PURITY… & 24 karat GOLD!

This 24 was made in 1908, it is 100% complete and has the STUNNING red berry decal set!

AND… she WORKS!

Now… to get this 24 head to sew I simply turned the hand wheel by hand! Not… practical I know… but I did want to show you that she would sew!

This machine is suitable for hand crank use or treadle use!
I have had this set up as portables too!

Just an extremely pretty 118 year old Singer… it’s rare when we find one this GOOD!

Enjoy!

FOR SALE $300

Hi Folks!!!

Tonight…. From a secret location!😬 Wolf’s Travels & The Finger Lakes Collection presents…

“YES Script!!!”

No this Singer 20 has not been redone with these unusual script decals! It is just one of several special 20’s that Singer made in 1924!

The chain stitch model 20 was introduced in 1910, then redesigned in 1914, and then again in 1924!

Some speculate that because of this latest design that Singer decided to make these special machines! Besides the script there were French & German export machines, as well
as machines that say Made in USA, or simply USA on their rear bases under the oval Singer decal! SEW maybe!?!?

This machine is complete and is not rusty! It is estate FRESH and would benefit from a very minor cleaning.

Enjoy!

SOLD!!!

Hi Folks!!!

Tonight a delight from Wolf’s travels!!!

“A Doll in the middle!!!”

Tonight a wonderful find, a true 1910 4 spoke Singer model 20, in her original box, with correct table clamp and correct seam guide! Wow!

I say true 1910 because Singer made them from 1910 to 1913, and really the only way to tell a true 1910 when you find one is by having the 1 year only correct box…. Which has the Doll head in the middle of the machine in the illustration!

This machine is 100% complete and sews a single thread chain stitch!

The box has minor loss but is quite possibly RARER than the machine itself, so few have survived!

Enjoy!

Tonight From Wolf’s Travels & The J&P Lowrey Collection….

“Painted RED… and left for dead!”

Hi Folks!!!

Well you’ve heard me say it before and I’ll say it again, thank goodness for the Lowrey’s & their commitment to save this priceless early American technology! … and just WOW-ZA… Magician!!! This was a tough one folks!!!

When found this machine had literally been painted RED and left for dead! A thick coat of brick red paint had been brushed onto nearly 95% of the machine’s cast iron body!

Her wood had suffered too! Coming apart at the seams and loaded with CRUD… but the Magician has brought her back!

Before we deliver this machine we will also fabricate a new set of slide plates! SEW LOOK for a future post!😊

Lots of before & after pics!!!

The American Magnetic SMCo. Was based in Ithaca, New York from 1853 to 1854! While the company reported making about 600 machines, this is doubtful in the companies 1 year time frame! This machine is serial number 329!

Her needle bar arm is ENGRAVED on both sides! The front side says… The American Magnetic Sewing Machine Co. Patent 1853… and the rear side says … Improvement on E.Howe’s Patent Sept.10,1846!

But “Improvement,” may have been a lofty term, as reports from the time indicate that these machines did not work very well, a common occurrence with machines made in the early 1850s!!!

The Ames marking… The Ames marking often causes a lot of confusion and people think that manufactured these machines, when in fact, it’s really more probable that Ames manufactured some of the parts for these machines, and they may have even cast the thin, skeletal body of these machines, also as they did have their own foundry and were known for making parts for several different types of machinery! Manufacturing the large brass gear that you’ll see in the pictures would not have been a stretch for the Ames company!

This machine sews a two thread lock stitch! I’m not sure exactly how and I’m sure The Lowrey’s are going to have a lot of fun, figuring this old gal out, again look for a future post! 😊

This could be the rarest machine you see all year! … but wait until you see what we have coming next from this incredible collection!

Enjoy!
