If these walls could talk, they'd have quite the story to tell! 🤎
Long before The Cotton Company became a destination for shopping local, our historic building was known as the W.W. Holding Cotton Exchange Warehouse, or simply "The Cotton Company" to locals.
Years ago, wagons and trucks would arrive from nearby farms carrying bales of cotton. The cotton was unloaded, sold, and transported by train to factories where it would eventually become clothing and other goods.
Here's a fun piece of history: What we know as the front of The Cotton Company today was once the back of the building! Cotton was hoisted up to the railroad loading area, and those very railroad tracks are still active today. 🚂
When Bob and Elizabeth envisioned a new purpose for this historic warehouse, they dreamed of helping revitalize downtown Wake Forest while preserving a piece of its past.
Today, instead of bales of cotton, our doors welcome shoppers discovering the work of 80+ local artists, makers, and small businesses.
Different times, different treasures, but the same building connecting our community through commerce for generations. 🤎
