For those of you who are new around here my name is Karissa but most of my friends call me Kiki.
Im the owner, designer, maker, and face behind Island Aura. I have stayed in the shadows for over two years while running this business out of straight FEAR! Being vulnerable and blasting yourself out to 1000’s of strangers is not my idea of a fun time BUT I also think its SO import to show the human aspect of my business. I LOVE when other makers share inside glimpse of their life, so why wouldn’t I do same?! It took a while, but I am here!

I am a ONE woman operation and have have to learn to wear sooo many hats that I was not anticipating in the begging of this journey! I have never been more stressed, uncertain if I will be able to pay my pills in any given month, burnt out, and overall exhausted. BUT.. I have also never been SO HAPPY! Doing what you love for work is probably the greatest gift you can give yourself. A lesson learned that took a damn pandemic to teach me.

How it all started…. I was living on Maui, HI working at the hotels when Covid hit and lost all 3 of my jobs! Unemployment wasn’t going to cut it while living in the most expensive place in the nation so I has to reevaluate my life and find out how I was going to survive. I brainstormed for weeks and kept writing down all my passions. JEWELRY just kept popping up. I had always designed it then had it commissioned by other jewelers but never really made anything note worthy myself. Then one day I took a leap of faith, invested in some supplies, watched a billion YouTube videos on how to start and run a small business and boom, Island Aura was created!

I still have no clue what I am doing most of the time but I have now learned to laugh along the way lol! I still have a lot to learn, and will probably continue to make lots of mistakes but we all start somewhere and I am damn proud of how far I have come from two years ago!
