About 3 years ago, a wonderful man by the name of Hob, passed away. Hob was my husband's grandfather but I adopted him as my own. "A true Renaissance Man", is what I would say when anybody asked about Hob. Hob was born in the early 1900s and he achieved so much in his lifetime that truly was unheard of, especially a man born from a small rural Mississippi town. Hob played baseball in college; trai
ned and flew planes as an enlisted military soldier; graduated in Business from University of Southern Mississippi; married the "love-of-his-life", Maxine; opened a successful drug store in Quitman, MS called, Hammack Drugs; had a family of 2 children, while raising his 3 nephews; won many golfing trophies; retired in the 1970s; collected coins; loved his children; opened the doors for the ladies; went to his church; followed Christ; and made me fall in love with him. After he left his earthly home, I felt it...we all did, but somebody had to have the job of cleaning out Hob's house. I became that someone. I was the only one who had time and probably the only one who didn't mind the gruesome work. Also, I'm 5' 0" tall and am the only one who could get in the attic. Hence, the name "Attic Queen". Honestly, I've never seen such a mess but I committed to doing the job and "gosh darnit"...I'm going to do the job! After climbing the steep ladder of a dusty old attic, there would be many times I'd wonder to myself, "You dummy...always volunteering", while my clothes would be drenched with sweat from the intensity of the attic's heat. Five minutes! Five minutes is all it would take to go from completely dry to completely drenched, but...Oh, What I Found! This was my "Indian Jones" moment. I found vintage sewing patterns, vintage sewing odds and ends, buttons, more buttons, books, rare books, jewelry, pottery, more pottery, more, more, more. So here it is...for all of the world to see. My treasures or should I say "Hob's treasures"? Yes...I'll give credit to Hob, because he would think that was a "mighty fine" thing to do. Some of these items listed are from Hob's and Maxine's hobbies, and some items are what they sold in their drug store. I really hope Hob didn't mind me putting his whole attic online for the world to see but if you knew Hob then you'd know, that he wouldn't. He was a class-act, a true Renaissance Man, a true businessman, and truly will forever be missed. Thank you and I hope you enjoy. Kelli Dedwylder, a.k.a. "Attic Queen"
P.S. About 90% of the items listed came from Hob's attic, and the other 10% are found treasures from my many flea market explorations.
