Some days as a small business owner are magical… and some days break your heart a little.
Today is one of those days.
I’ve asked what you’d love to see in the shop and I’ve made it happen. New products, new experiences, new scents, new ideas. I listen, I create, I show up. Every day.
But it’s Saturday… and I’ve had three customers.
Downtown is supposed to be buzzing on weekends. People are out, the weather is nice, the streets are alive but not down here. Not past the stoplight. Most people stop at the corner, turn around, and never make it to this end of Main Street.
And I’ll be honest: my heart is breaking.
I’m on the verge of closing.
Not because I don’t love this shop, I do, with everything in me but because foot traffic just… doesn’t reach me.
What hurts the most is knowing this town doesn’t have another candle store.
I’m the only one.
And I offer so much more than just candles; melts, sprays, fresheners, handmade goods, scent experiences, gifts, and things you can’t find anywhere else.
I’m not sharing this for pity. I’m sharing it because small businesses survive on community, on people choosing to walk a little farther, choosing to explore the whole block, choosing to support the shops that don’t always get the spotlight.
So, before you run to that big box store, ask yourself…
“Is there a local business I can get this from instead?”
If you’ve ever wondered how to help a small business, this is it.
Visit. Share. Tell a friend. Take a few extra steps past the stoplight.
I’m still here. I’m still trying. I’m still believing. I'm still praying.
And if you’ve supported me in any way, big or small, thank you. Truly.
