CommUnity Bracelet

Come start your Fourth of July festivities at the Vershire Artisan and Farmers Market this Sunday. Black OWLL Studio is having a special on red, silver and blue chain mail bracelets. The selected medieval design, Helms Weave, was used as a chin strap for a helmet. It lends itself nicely a variety of tricolor designs. The pattern is the same even though the colors change.

Show your Fourth of July pride and commitment to the Founding Fathers ideals with a snazzy bracelet.

The Helms Weave bracelet is normally $20 plus tax. For this holiday it’s on sale for $10, including Vermont sales tax.

Come visit the vendors at the Vershire Artisan and Farmers’ Market. It’s Sunday afternoons from 1230 until 330 running from May 19 until September 15. It will be located on the Vershire town center green.

I decided to be a vendor for the full season because it’ll be enjoyable to talk to the folks that stop by. I had to lay low with blacksmithing since it took over a year to recover full function of my left hand after a fractured thumb. (You don’t want to fumble an iron bar heated to 2000°F). But I am back at the anvil. Below is a picture of a batch of hooks I’m finishing up for the market. I also weave Chain mail jewelry, which may be worth a look.

Lucas Daniels has worked very hard to juggle all the challenges to make this community event happen. We have an enthusiastic group of local vendors with a wide variety of wares. We put in our request for sunny Sunday afternoons but we’ll see how that goes.

So, please come down and check us out. You may find some treasures you didn’t know you needed.

I was a vendor at the Revels North Festival in Lebanon last weekend. Since Black OWLL Studio has a strong Scottish background, I thought it was reasonable to wear my kilt. I guess WMUR thought that was newsworthy. Enjoy the clip.

Since the last Black OWLL Studio blog post I’ve had some interesting conversations. Someone asked if the forged rune tile could be put on a keychain rather than a necklace. That provoked a search for the stronger stainless steel chain mail rings rather than the aluminum rings used for jewelry. After some trial and error at the workbench, I’ve come up with some nice sturdy designs for keychains. Plus I’ve also used the Stainless steel rings to design some additional Chainmail Jewelry.

Someone else ask if the forged Delicate Heart with a twist could be made into a pin. I added a wee bit of hammered copper so a small pin could be incorporated into the design.

Fully Open - Regular Hours - Finish Work Done

The hiatus is over. Black OWLL Studio is fully open. John, the carpenter, work several weeks finishing the 14 drawers under the workbenches. Plus putting in the gate and fencing. Plus all the molding and trim work. Plus the painting. Come by and see is excellent work.

I am also excited about finding a small metal supplier. I’ve forged some new items pictured below. You can go to the website blackowllstudio.com for further details and information.

I’ll be able to have more consistent hours now. I plan to forge in the cooler morning hours. And weave chain mail jewelry or other projects later in the day. I’m enjoying getting organized in the studio. The big challenge is remembering which drawer I’ve put what tools in..….

Mom had a great idea. Her 10 year old son is interested in blacksmithing. She contacted me and we arranged a demonstration at Black OWLL Studio for his birthday. Everyone had a great time. He found out the old saying is true, “Blacksmithing is like hard work, only harder.”
