Pompom and Gitta Detectives

Pompom and Gitta Detectives Pompom and Gitta roam through the pages of four books in a mystery series, created by Agi (Agnes Maria) Trifontaine. Ingenuity is rather the order of the day.

Pompom is the dedicated detective, although Gitta joins in her adventures, sometimes against her better judgement. This mystery series for children 8-12 was created by Agi (Agnes Maria) Trifontaine. Four books are available at Amazon as books, e-books, Kindle. A fifth book is in the works and a sixth planned. Each book is complete in itself, but who would not like to find out what else the charmin

g young detectives are about? The first book 'Stradivari Don't Grow on Trees' takes place in Munich Germany and has to do with a precious violin, friendship, loyalty, and resourcefulness. The second 'There Is Music In All Things' evolves out of the amazing events of the first. It takes our bright young detectives to the Czech Republic as guests of Herr Kadinsky, the famous violinist. It is about Pompom's amazing detective nose, the mysterious Madame XYZ, stolen treasures, castles and a kidnapping. In the third book 'The Venetian Tiara' we follow Andy, Gitta's cousin, as he tries his skill as detective. This book is about beautiful Venice, canals, gondolas, palaces, a duke, friendship and, of course, a jeweled tiara. In the fourth book 'Arrest That Ghost' we meet another cousin of Gitta's, Wolfgang who has a few problems that Pompom and Gitta are eager to help him with. Wolfgang assists his family with administrating the vineyard and the castle. He is very proud of the family ghosts, Sigismund and Rosamunde. This book tells the story of those two beloved ghosts, and more. It talks about loyalty, generosity, friendship, family relationships. All four books teach about cultural differences and customs. The stories are exciting without having to rely on violence. In the fifth book, which is being written at this point, the two detectives travel to Japan, again in the company of Herr Kadinsky, who has by now become a member of Gitta's family. They encounter many unusual and fascinating things and also, how much people resemble each other, no matter where they come from. The fifth book is designed to happen on a farm in Minnesota and deals with plants, crops, family loyalty and more. Only a sketch of it exists. The books are exciting and fun and happily bring different cultures together. They are aimed at introducing such things to children's minds and encourage them to be curious and non-judgmental toward people different from themselves.

Well, the children's mystery series has been rewritten and released. Illustrations by Sasha were added. The artist was five when she contributed the first set of drawings for the "Princess' Kimono ". It took four years to complete the set of five books. They are available on Amazon and other retailers.

In my view, artists do not have an affinity for business. It takes a different kind of mind to write, compose, paint etc. Unfortunately, the idea of what it is to be an artist has changed. The Internet is to blame that artists must acquire a new set of skills. The writer, whose marketing was formerly done by experts, now must deal with this her/himself and see to the distribution of their books.

For me this seems like an insurmountable hurdle. I wish to be acknowledged, take part in a dialogue, not blow my own horn. However, books need to be sold, in order to establish a relationship with a reader.

All I had to do formerly was write, now I have no choice but acquire a business sense.

I am, of course, talking about self-publishing which includes self-promotion. But I don’t want to belabor the point about the ‘good old times.’

Although self-publishing has its number of pitfalls, it has many advantages as well. There is no better feeling than to hold a printed copy in one’s hand, days after it has been printed and published, and to know one owns it, lock, stock and barrel. To top it off, the value of the work is determined by the writer who sets the selling price. Although I want to, I cannot always bemoan progress.

Sasha, my granddaughter, suggested she be part of my work. I took her up on it and she did the drawings for my mystery series. She was five years old when she illustrated the last book “The Japanese Kimono”. She had no trouble understanding things Japanese and did a very nice job. Now she is nine and we just finished the (fourth) of the series “Arrest That Ghost.” It took four years to rewrite, illustrate and republish all five books. “Arrest That Ghost” is about to come out and will be on Amazon in a week or two, along with my other books, a novel and three volumes of poetry.

The five books in my mystery series for children 8-12:

#1; Stradivari Don’t Grown On Trees, introduces the Youngest Detectives Ever, Pompom and Gitta.
When a Stradivarius disappears, the two go on the hunt. After several adventures, including a kidnapping, they bring the story to a successful close.
#2; There Is Music in All Things. The two detectives travel to the Czech Republic. They meet a colorful lady who makes Pompom’s detective nose quiver. When precious treasures disappear, Pompom has her suspicions. When she follows them, she and Gitta fall into some hilarious and dangerous situations.
#3; The Venetian Tiara tells about Andy who has unexpected encounters with a duke and his great-granddaughter. When a valuable heirloom vanishes, he is ready to follow in Pompom and Gina’s footsteps to solve the case.
#4; Arrest That Ghost finds the girl detectives in Austria where they are visiting relatives. The family ghosts serve Pompom and Gitta in teaching some bullies a lesson. An ancient art object goes missing from the castle. As always, Pompom follows her suspicion and ends up a prisoner of the thief.
#5; The Princess Kimono finds the two detectives in the house of a royal lady. An heirloom kimono is stolen. Pompom and Gitta know the culprit, yet disclosure could mean embarrassment. might me. But there is the question of proving it which might lead to embarrassment. Integrity and justice, however, win.

My granddaughter Sasha became, at the age of five, my collaborator. As I was discussing marketing of my books with her mother, her voice piped up from the background. “I want to be part of your work, Grandma,” she said. I was amazed at her request, although I had no doubt in her ability. So far, she has not shown any signs of bashfulness when it comes to performing or displaying her art.
I suggested that she first have her mother read my books for her. My daughter explained that Sasha felt they were inadequate, since they lacked illustrations which she considered imperative to the book’s meaning.
I suggested that I rewrite and republish the books in the mystery series, and that she supply the illustrations she wished to see as part of the books. She enthusiastically agreed and we set to work immediately.
The book I was working on takes place in Japan. It is named “The Princess’ Kimono.” I told hear about Japan where my family lived for four years and showed her pictures. We also watched a video about Sumo Wrestlers. Her rendition of them is my favorite, but all the drawings are precious to me. What astounded and delighted me was that she got the essence of the culture. There is not one drawing that does not look Japanese.
We have redone the series’ five books. They are for purchase on Amazon a.o.

The characters in my books seem to know better who they are than I. They take over the story.
It is so with The Two Youngest Detectives Ever who are a mixture of traits which complement each other. They are dream children who always know what to do. Well, it is fiction. Certainly, Pompom and Gitta make mistakes, but they fix them in a way that serves them and the development of the story.
‘My two girls’ are smart and resourceful. I planned for them to travel and meet with unfamiliar cultures. The character of violinist Stanislav Kadinsky offers a handy solution to my design. He becomes Gitta’s stepfather and thus Gitta and her alter-ego Pompom are given a chance to travel with him when he goes on tour.
In the fifth book of the mystery series “The Princesss’ Kimono,” Stanislav takes them to Japan, a country that has played a large role in my life with its mystery, as well as sad, glad, and hilarious memories.
Pompom and Gitta are modern German girls who communicate through their cell phone. Yet they are not immune to romance, castles, ghosts and exotic clothing. Clothing, the traditional Japanese garment, is the main ingredient in this story “The Princess’ Kimono.”
Besides getting a huge dose of an unfamiliar culture, they have wonderful adventures and a lot of fun. And, of course, they solve a troubling mystery, because of their ingenuity and Pompom’s unfailing sense of what is real and what is not.

The most difficult person to discover may be our self.
Face of God depicts such self-discovery in the journal of painter Rolanda Tribault. She is the quintessential ‘American Princess,’ rich, beautiful, talented, who takes every privilege serenely for granted. Her father, an influential attorney, has indulged her and kept life’s sorrows far away from her. Yet, Rolanda has paid a price. She has lost her artistic vision and idles away her time with distractions and obsessive attempts to capture the face of God from one of Peter Paul Rubens’ paintings.
Do we truly grow into humanity by suffering? Face of God seems to prove the point. Rolanda’s search for meaning begins when she experiences the empty passion of passing love affairs. Her heart opens to forgotten memories and fears. She discovers that she has been living in a complacent dream. Such discovery leads to deep pain and suffering as well as to an understanding of the human condition and awakens the artist in a new, transformative way.

I am happy to note the attention my post received. Naturally, every writer likes to be acknowledged. It is important to me that children know about my mystery series. They were in my mind when I wrote the books. As a Social Worker I wore a button that proclaimed "Kids are my business." It's still valid, even thought I no longer work actively with children. Thank you for showing interest in my work.🧒🧑👩‍🦱
