We've been thinking about this post for a while so it's longer than normal...
Over the past few months, we've seen more and more posts from small business owners all over announcing they're closing, selling, or stepping away from businesses they once loved.
Not because they stopped caring. Not because they weren't successful. But because they're tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. Somewhere along the way, they became so consumed by the business that they lost the ability to enjoy it.
That hit us hard, because we love Triple C.
We love seeing kids light up when they see their bounce house arrive. We love being part of birthday parties, school events, church functions, fundraisers, and community celebrations. We love getting to know our customers and watching families come back year after year. We want to still love this business 10 and 20 years from now.
Like a lot of small business owners, we've fallen into the habit of answering messages whenever they come in. Late at night, early in the morning, weekends, holidays, during movies, during family time, sports games... you get the point. And if we're being honest, a lot of that comes from the fear of missing a customer if we don't respond immediately. (What about the kids?!)
But we've realized something important...
If we don't create healthy boundaries, eventually we risk becoming one of those businesses that's simply tired. Not tired because of hard work, we don't mind hard work. Tired because we've forgotten how to step away, recharge, and enjoy the very thing we built. We don't want that!
We want to keep showing up excited. We want to keep serving our community. We want to keep loving what we do and the people we do it for.
We've noticed that many of us are willing to wait days for a response from a large corporation, but we've unintentionally created an expectation that small businesses should be available 24/7. The reality is that behind every small business is a real person and a real family.
At Triple C, the person answering your messages is often the same person delivering your rental, scheduling your event, handling contracts, and trying to be present for his family at the same time.
So moving forward, we'll be establishing business hours for communication. If you send us a message outside of those hours, please know we appreciate you, we value your business, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible during our next business day.
We've also learned something else over the years. As a wise friend and fellow small business owner once told us:
We're not McDonald's. We're not for everyone, and everyone isn't our customer. 😉
If you need a company that responds instantly at all hours of the day and night, we may not be the right fit for you, and that's okay!
But if you want a local family business that genuinely cares about your event, your kids, your experience, your safety, and this community, we'll continue giving you everything we've got and our absolute best!
At the end of the day, this change isn't about caring less. It's about making sure we can keep caring for a very long time because we want to be here for the long haul!
Thank you for supporting local. Thank you for supporting our family. And thank you for giving us the grace to be people, not just a business.
Sincerely,
Your Triple C Family ❤
