Tech Tip Tuesday: Cleaning Your Microphones 🎤
Let's kick off this Tuesday with some essential tips on how to properly clean your audio equipment. Here are a few important "don'ts" to keep in mind:

Avoid These Cleaning Methods:
Bleach: No bleach cleaning products.
Hydrogen Peroxide: Avoid using hydrogen peroxide.
Hand Sanitizers: Do not use hand sanitizers.
Abrasive Tools: No abrasive cleaning tools (e.g., scrub brush, scouring pad).
Liquids: Do not saturate products with liquid.
Rubbing Alcohol: No rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) on clear plastic parts.
Grille/Windscreen: Remove grille/windscreen for cleaning. Do not clean the element itself.
General Cleaning Tips:

Unplug: Before cleaning, unplug the microphone from any power sources.
Use a Solution: You can use a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water to disinfect the microphone. Adding water helps the alcohol's germ-killing properties last longer. Alternatively, use a 90:10 solution to help the microphone dry faster and reduce the risk of seepage. Apply the solution to a microfiber cloth and wipe the entire surface of the microphone. Avoid getting the solution on the microphone membrane.
Remove Parts: If the microphone has a removable grill, unscrew it and remove any foam parts. Clean the foam with warm water and mild soap, then rinse and let it dry completely. Use a hair dryer on low heat to help it dry faster.
Clean Crevices: Gently separate small parts of the microphone to clean any crevices.
Dry: Let the microphone dry out in the sun or under UV light for up to 72 hours to kill bacteria. You can also try "baking" the microphone in the oven, as heat can help.
How to Clean the Handle:

Power down the transmitter and remove the battery before cleaning.
Re-attach the battery cover to minimize exposure of the battery contacts to cleaning agents.
Leave the grille and windscreen on to protect the microphone element from moisture.
Use only a soft cloth and a minimal amount of cleaner - do not saturate the product.
Recommended Cleaning Agents:

Mild soapy water (such as liquid dish soap), then removed with a clean, damp cloth.
Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes.
Lysol® Disinfectant Spray.
Isopropyl alcohol (Note: May remove some paint from the handle; test on an inconspicuous area first).
Cleaning Tips:

Avoid getting moisture on the microphone element.
Hold the microphone upright to let excess liquid flow away from the element.
Avoid the display bezel, buttons, switches, or seams while cleaning.
Pat dry with a soft cloth after cleaning.
How to Clean the Grille:

Keep an inventory of spares instead of cleaning the grille and windscreen whenever possible.
Unscrew the grille from the microphone.
Remove the foam windscreen pop-filter inside the grille.
Clean the grille with water or isopropyl alcohol using a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Rinse the foam windscreen pop filter with water or isopropyl alcohol only.
For external foam windscreens, use only warm water or hydrogen peroxide.
Remove excess water and allow the grille and windscreen to dry fully before reinstalling.
Note: If the microphone output seems low or quieter than normal, it’s possible the microphone element got wet and hasn’t fully dried yet. Unplug the microphone and allow it to dry out completely before using it.
