Little progress on the Wife’s Mule saddle that’s been pushed back for over 1 1/2 years. Time to start making a concerted effort to wrap this up and let her ride it!

Foundations are Important. Saddle Making is no exception!

When Saddle Trees are built correctly, square and properly…… saddle making is a much more enjoyable process for the Saddle Maker.

A good Foundation makes EVERY subsequent process building saddles the way it’s suppose to … from making patterns, fitting leather down to even the things such as ornamental Carving and decoration due to one fundamental reason, SYMMETRY!

There are many ways to verify this , but my preferred method is a cross Laser.

I pattern match all of my leather components and level the thickness if necessary to ensure all things are created equal and consistent.

Proof of how this all comes together can be found in the pictures as the Laser verifies the accuracy of rigging locations and how the same drop and amount of leather mates to the tree in this build.

Details matter when our clients spend their hard earned money with us. This attention to detail shows I cared about it from the very beginning …. till the very end of the build!

And for the people out there that wonder why saddles from true custom handmakers start at $5000.00 and up…. Consider that this is an example of the attention to detail they possess. Anything short of this level of attention is simply not done the best it can be!
