It’s my favorite holiday: Dorothy Parker’s birthday! Born 133 years ago today, she was one of the most celebrated writers and wits in America in the 1920s, and a member of the famous “Algonquin Round Table,” a gathering of the New York literary luminaries at the Algonquin Hotel in Manhattan. Mrs. Parker is my favorite writer— we jokingly refer to her as the patron saint of the shop. She looks over us every day from our beloved print by Ryan Sheffield, a “shopwarming” gift from Anne Schroeder , and I love it so much when people notice it. It’s a thrill to hear her words spoken aloud over a century after she wrote them. I think she’d toast to that.
