Looks can be deceiving when it comes to diversity! 🐱🐱
Dogs are champions of morphological diversity;,a Chihuahua and a Great Dane hardly look like the same species! But generations of selective breeding and genetic bottlenecks have left many dog breeds with relatively low genetic diversity.
Cats, meanwhile, tend to stick closer to the same basic body plan. But random-bred domestic cats have retained a surprising amount of genetic diversity.
Of course, judging by these two, “same basic body plan” is apparently open to interpretation.
