I’m not the farmers wife, I am the farmer.
Now don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot I couldn’t do without my muscle man by my side, but it is my farm.
Farm work doesn’t make you stronger, It doesn’t make you anything - It reveals you.
There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive…The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.
I do my best to show the good, the bad and the ugly.
I don’t try to hide the mess on our farm, I know that 80% of Homestead and farms are not aesthetic and do not look like a Pinterest board. I hate opening apps and feeling like everyone has their life together and it all looks pretty and my farm is just a big mess because social media is usually people’s highlights and they never show the messyness or sadness that does unfortunately come with farming.
I have chicken feeders/waterers and cattle troughs that need to be scrubbed and refilled, a scrap steel pile in the yard because I’m sure I’ll need that for something someday (and it sure has come in handy this far). There are SO many unfinished projects all over, fence lines that need to be tightened and so much more.
I will never sugar coat things and I will always be myself on here. I don’t judge others who only post the positives, that’s your choice but I want others to not feel alone when they have a mess of a farm or deal with a loss of an animal.
I hate showing animal loss but it’s something that WILL happen on a farm/homestead. You can do everything absolutely perfectly and still loose an animal, it will make you feel completely hopeless - I’ve been there.
Being open and vulnerable can lead to lots of judgement and criticism but that’s ok, you can’t stop others from having opinions.
So here’s to all of you first generation farmers/homesteaders or any of you who can relate, I hope you follow my journey and get some relief knowing you’re not alone in your struggles and I know you’re doing your best. 😉🤍
