Children often wonder: Who is Guan Yin? In our children's book, "Guan Yin: The Buddha's Helper," young readers discover that she is the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion. But her name holds a beautiful, quiet lesson for us all.

"Guan Shr Yin" means to contemplate or listen to the sounds of the world. She doesn't just listen with her ears; she listens with her heart to anyone who needs comfort or help.

We don't need magical powers to be like Guan Yin. When we pause, put down our distractions, and truly listen to a friend who is sad, a sibling who is frustrated, or a parent who is tired—we are practicing her deep compassion right at home.

Did you know that anyone can be a Bodhisattva? While they are often seen as great beings with hearts as vast as the mountains, the spirit of a Bodhisattva lives in every one of us.

By introducing our children to these great teachers in "Snow-Covered Peaks," we show them that true greatness isn't found in what we take for ourselves, but in how much we can give to others. We can all start our journey toward being a Bodhisattva, right here and right now.

Compassion is a choice we make with every breath. In "Prince Siddhartha and the Bully," we learn that compassion isn't just a feeling—it is an action. It is the brave decision to protect, to heal, and to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

By sharing Siddhartha’s journey with our children, we teach them that the greatest strength doesn't come from a bow and arrow, but from a heart that refuses to do harm.

The path of sharing the Buddha’s teachings with the next generation is a journey of both responsibility and joy. Recently, Authority Magazine invited Red Wing, the author of "First You," to share some reflections on the heart behind her writing.

In these excerpts, she speaks not of personal achievement, but of a simple wish: to provide children with the tools they need to grow into kind, thoughtful, and self-reflective individuals. These reflections remind us that a story’s true value lies in the seeds of virtue it plants in a young heart.

We are grateful for the kind recognition this book has received, and we hope it continues to serve as a humble guide for families walking the path of compassion together.

In the story of Sati, we find a simple but life-changing lesson: honoring those who raised us is the first step toward a compassionate life. By practicing "First You" within his family, Sati learns that respect and selflessness are a way of living that honors the bond between parent and child.

Parents, remember: our children are watching how we treat our own parents. When they see us practicing "First You" in our homes, they are learning how to care for us in the years to come. Every act of kindness we show our elders is a seed planted in our children’s hearts—one that will grow into a lifetime of kindness, compassion, and gratitude.

The map changes, but the message remains. 🕊️🌍

With the recent completion of the "Walk for Peace" in Sri Lanka, we are reminded that peace is a journey that transcends borders. Whether walking across the United States or through the landscapes of Sri Lanka, the Venerable Monks carry a light that continues to inspire.

Swipe to see how our 2nd and 3rd-grade students at IGDVS captured the spirit of this mission. From the arrival in Washington, D.C. to the faithful company of Aloka the peace dog, these drawings show that our students aren't just observing a walk—they are learning to walk their own path of mindfulness.

Though these physical journeys have concluded, the practice of mindfulness remains. These young artists remind us that peace isn't just an event—it is a continuous path we choose to walk every day, one step at a time, wherever we are in the world.

A child’s perspective can sometimes inspire us in the simplest, yet most profound way.

When we look past our own busy minds as adults, we realize that these young voices aren't just "learning" virtues—they are reminding us how to return to them.

We often treat "virtue" as a complex subject to be studied in thick volumes. But to a child, these ten qualities aren't complicated theories—they are simply ways to be.

As adults, we may feel overwhelmed by the weight of these words. Yet, when we remove the "noise," we find that these virtues are just different names for a single, pure intention. By looking at these virtues through children’s eyes, we can rediscover how simplicity provides a much deeper understanding.

As adults, we often overcomplicate the path to goodness, layering our values with logic and life’s complexities. But for a child, virtue is as natural as breathing.

Today, we introduce "Ten Golden Virtues: Poems & Murals," a guidebook created entirely by students. This book is more than just a guide; it is an invitation for us, as parents, to simplify. Let these young voices invigorate your own spiritual journey and remind you that sometimes, the most profound lessons are the simplest ones.

Our six-month journey reaches its peak! This month, we explore the crowning virtue: The Perfection of Wisdom.

Wisdom (Prajñā) is the essential light of understanding that transforms the first five practices into true "perfections." Without Wisdom, our acts of kindness are simply good habits; with Wisdom, they become intentional choices rooted in the deep awareness that everything is interconnected.

You model Prajñā by explaining to your child the "why" behind their actions and how those choices create ripples of peace for themselves and others. By teaching them to look beyond the surface, you help them turn everyday good deeds into a compassionate way of life.

Thank you for traveling this path with us. We hope the Six Perfections help guide your family toward a life filled with the Joy of the Dharma.
