Vivianite is a soft, hydrated iron(II) phosphate mineral (Fe₃(PO₄)₂ ⋅ 8H₂O) famous for its striking deep blue or green crystals. It forms in low-oxygen environments where iron and phosphorus interact, frequently growing inside fossil shells, decaying organic matter, or even-the organic remains of bones and corpses.

Light Sensitivity: Exposure to direct sunlight causes the iron to oxidize further, permanently darkening the crystals into a deep, opaque black-blue.

Fragility: Because it is soft and flexible in thin layers, collectors handle raw vivianite with extreme care and store it in dark, enclosed spaces.

This specimen is a Colombian phantom quartz crystal cluster, highly prized by mineral collectors for its exceptional optical clarity and unique growth formations.

Phantom Inclusions: The misty, cloud-like zones visible within the lower sections of the crystal bodies are phantom formations. These "ghost" structures occur when mineral deposition pauses due to changes in temperature or fluid pressure, leaving a visible snapshot of a previous growth boundary before clear quartz continues to crystallize over it. In Colombian deposits, these are often composed of ultra-fine micro-inclusions of minerals like cookeite or amphibole.

A tabby quartz crystal is chemically composed of silica (SiO₂). It is physically distinguished by its flat, wide, and tablet-like crystal habits rather than the standard hexagonal columns.
