✏️ Managing the chronic condition of lymphedema requires ongoing management of complete decongestant therapy (CDT).

🌱 One component of CDT, is the manual lymphatic drainage (MLD); sometimes also called “lymphatic massage).

MLD is a gentle hands-on 🤲🏻 technique that helps direct the flow 🔁 of the lymphatic fluid, back towards the normal drainage pathways so your body can get rid of the fluid 💦

❤️ MLD may temporarily reduce swelling, heaviness, and discomfort (and help you feel better!)
*make sure you find a therapist who is certified and trained as a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT)

❎ However, because your body continuously produces and collects lymphatic fluid, the benefits of MLD are temporary.

*BUT THAT IS OK!* You can learn how to perform regular MLD on yourself at home, and use in addition to your comprehensive treatment program, along with wearing compression 🧦, moving as much as you can 💃🏻, and taking care of your skin 🧴.

We know it can frustrating, overwhelming, and exhausting, and THAT IS OK. Everyday that you choose to do something from your treatment plan, is another day that you are moving forward and moving that lymph. 🫶🦋💜

☀️ Vitamin D: One of the Most Important — and Most Commonly Low — Nutrients in the Body

Did you know vitamin D functions more like a hormone than a vitamin?

Nearly every👏 cell 👏in the body has vitamin D receptors, showing just how important it is to your overall wellness!!!

✨So, then why is vitamin D so commonly low? 🤔⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

• More time indoors
• Daily sunscreen use
• Limited sun exposure during winter months
• Darker skin tones naturally absorb less UV light
• Aging decreases vitamin D production
• Certain GI conditions can reduce absorption
• Obesity can alter vitamin D storage and availability

🩺 Top 5️⃣ Physiological Roles of Vitamin D:

1️⃣ Immune System Support 🦠
Vitamin D helps regulate immune responses and supports your body’s ability to fight illness.

2️⃣ Bone & Muscle Health 💪🦴
It helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for strong bones, teeth, and muscle function.

3️⃣ Mood & Brain Health 🧠🧘🏼‍♀️
Low vitamin D levels have been associated with fatigue, low mood, and seasonal mood changes in some individuals.

4️⃣ Inflammation Regulation ⚠️
Vitamin D plays a role in regulating inflammatory pathways throughout the body.

5️⃣ Hormonal & Cellular Function 🧫🧬
Vitamin D influences hundreds of cellular processes related to metabolism, tissue repair, and overall physiological balance.

🧡 Wellness Reminder:
Vitamin D is not just about bone health — it supports WHOLE-BODY wellness.

We all love Motivational Mondays! Meh not the Monday part 😂

Living with swelling conditions like lymphedema or lipedema can feel frustrating when the swelling returns day after day.
*But* that does NOT mean your efforts are failing!

The lymphatic system does not have a central pump ~so the fluid is ALWAYS going to return~ it’s your body’s natural process.

Your lymphatic system relies on movement, muscle contractions, breathing, compression, AND healthy pathways to help move lymphatic fluid throughout the body.

Because of this process, swelling management is often an ongoing daily process — not a “one-time fix.”

✨ EVERY walk, no matter how short
✨ EVERY compression garment you wear
✨ EVERY pump session, even just once a day
✨ EVERY self-care choice

…helps support the lymphatic flow and can help you feel better.

Some days will feel easier than others, and THAT IS OK.
Consistency matters more than perfection.

Give yourself some grace- YOU are a work of art in progress 🦋🫶💜

Lymphedema can happen any time during your cancer treatment journey.

The last thing you want to think about is what could happen 1, 2, 3 years later. Unfortunately, the reality is that many of the curative measures taken to diagnose and treat breast cancer, can lead to lymphedema years after you rang that bell.

Look good, feel good! If you notice recurring swelling in any part of your body, notify your doctor and get checked out for lymphedema.

Do not let uncontrolled swelling caused by lymphedema affect your life. Let’s pivot together, get you in compression, and get you back to living your best life!
