✏️ Managing the chronic condition of lymphedema requires ongoing management of complete decongestant therapy (CDT).
🌱 One component of CDT, is the manual lymphatic drainage (MLD); sometimes also called “lymphatic massage).
MLD is a gentle hands-on 🤲🏻 technique that helps direct the flow 🔁 of the lymphatic fluid, back towards the normal drainage pathways so your body can get rid of the fluid 💦
❤️ MLD may temporarily reduce swelling, heaviness, and discomfort (and help you feel better!)
*make sure you find a therapist who is certified and trained as a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT)
❎ However, because your body continuously produces and collects lymphatic fluid, the benefits of MLD are temporary.
*BUT THAT IS OK!* You can learn how to perform regular MLD on yourself at home, and use in addition to your comprehensive treatment program, along with wearing compression 🧦, moving as much as you can 💃🏻, and taking care of your skin 🧴.
We know it can frustrating, overwhelming, and exhausting, and THAT IS OK. Everyday that you choose to do something from your treatment plan, is another day that you are moving forward and moving that lymph. 🫶🦋💜
