Magic Valley Lures

Magic Valley Lures This page is to promote my Etsy shop. Visit the shop to buy quality handmade fishing lures. I use my own lures, because I know they work.

In order to support my fishing habit, I decided to sell what I generally make at home to pass the time when the fishing is bad. I have caught over a dozen species of warm-water and cold-water fish, from four inches long to over two feet long. These aren't novelties or knick-knacks; my lures are the real deal, and you can be certain that you'll be catching trophy fish with these quality lures. Chec

It’s the Christmas Bird Count! One of the world’s greatest citizen science endeavors! All you need is an eBird account, and the Merlin app is really helpful. I don’t know if I would’ve ever gotten into birding without the Merlin app. It really flattens the learning curve and makes birding much more accessible for everyone

The GCBC lasts until January 5th, and all you have to do is create an eBird account, take some time outside between now and the 5th, and record in eBird the birds you can clearly identify. Our data actually makes a difference.

Remember, what’s good for birds is good for all of us.

Visiting my parents in the Sacramento area, and they’ve got a pretty cool greenbelt running through their neighborhood where the Merlin app pings over a dozen species of birds. The beavers are pretty freaking cool, too. 🪵🦫

I’m always bummed, though, at the new houses I see popping up like invasive weeds. The creek is a nature preserve, but there’s acres of flat grassland where I find western meadowlark and savannah sparrow all the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if that land was slated to be developed in the ten-year plan.

“But there’s millions of undeveloped acres of land!”

Habitat fragmentation is a serious problem. The more contiguous habitat we carve up with roads, houses, and power lines, the more we disturb the natural rhythms of ecosystems.
