Hi everyone!

I’ve been quite a stranger on here for the past year. And I’m so grateful for everyone whose been understanding of me during one of the hardest years of my life. I haven’t smiled in like 9months, after losing my father and best friend then getting paralyzed from neurological Lyme I had to retreat to be with this process that I’m still processing! This has all forced me to ask for help in profound ways.

That said, I had to ask for help from the wonderful to host the Yule bazaar as I just have to be slow with my health stuff rn.

So I’m curious if you’d all be willing to help me spread the word that the Yule bazaar is happening 12/13 at the avenue a entrance to . I’ll be there that day to say hi after a long hermit, and hope you can too!! & now I can smile albeit crooked and would love to smile with community!!

California poppy are such a delightful plant to work with. They roam around the garden, offering a splash of sunny color. These loves will be turned into tincture, I use the whole plant for my preparations; roots, flowers, stem and leaves. They are a gentle sedative that I often add to nervous system formulas, addiction recovery formulas (I make a glycerine as well), and for sleep support. This plant has shown me how gentle can be powerful, and how levity can come from feeling supported from the earth up.

Harvested some basswood (tilia Americana) flowers bracts and leaves today. Basswood is a relative of the beloved European linden and I use these two trees interchangeably. The leaves are deeply nutritious packed with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron. The young leaves make a delicious salad green in the spring and these more mature ones will be dried and then powdered to use for winter soups as both a nutritional boost and as a thickener. The bract and flowers make my entire kitchen smell like honey, and it is so understandable why the bees love these trees. The bract and flowers are diaphoretic, meaning they promote sweating and are mucilagenous, bringing the goop factor which whenever you find in a plant you can lean into knowing they sooth hot irritated tissue. Think mucus membranes, and linden has an affinity for the lungs, throat, digestion, and heart. I use this herb a lot in grief support formulas, it is deeply nourishing and it hosts support for anxiety, and nervous system buzz, overwhelm and sadness. These flowers are sweet and delicate support that can be used in teas, syrups, electuaries (infused honeys), soups, tinctures, and desserts. I love using this medicinal paired with lemon balm to soften and support us during hard times.

I’ve been getting into fun ways to pack nutrition into my body and this base recipe for homemade jello continues to serve me well. This batch was made with sweet fern, wild blueberry and black raspberries I harvested yesterday with a friend. I also had some cold nettle tea so figured why not. The base recipe

Excited to be sharing on one of my favorite topics over at Sawmill Herb Farm, Herbs for the Nervous System. The nervous system is one of the most accessible spaces to connect with plants, and is typically the place where I initially support when working with clients as this system is intertwined with our own body's healing systems.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Herbs for the Nervous System - A sensory based approach. There is no better way to learn herbs than to experience them, and what better way to learn herbs and practices for the Nervous system than through the experience of our sensory bodies. In this class we will learn about the nervous system and move through the sensory lens to better know about our own nervous system and the herbs that can support us.

Laura is a herbalist and owner of Sage Green Botanicals, her work weaves together clinical skills, movement arts, ecology, coevolution between plants and our human senses, and place based relationship.

All workshops are held at our farm at 119 Old Sunderland Rd, Montague, MA. Workshops are rain or shine and are outdoors on grass with some uneven terrain. We have a covered location if it is pouring rain. If it is very bad weather we may cancel or postpone. When you sign up provide an email address for us to contact you in case of a last minute cancellation or delay. There is an rustic composting toilet available.

Please register in advance for classes and email us with any questions. Workshop materials are included in the class fee. We believe that education should be accessible, while also compensating our teachers fairly. Please be in touch by email if you need a sliding pay scale.

Join us on Sept 11. 5:30 - 7 pm

This upcoming weekend is the last weekend the apothecary will be open for regular walk in hours. After four years, I feel clear that owning a typical standard shop is just not for me because it takes me away from the land and my nature. I am someone who wants to be learning, teaching, and continuing to dive into the reciprocal landscapes with the plants and my community & honestly any good herbalist knows that to be good at this work one must be humble and accepting: that this is forever learning. I was taught a long while back that an apothecary is an herbalist, and if there is no herbalist then it is just a commerce store so with that the apothecary will live on. & While we won’t have regular hours, the apothecary will continue onward at the same location just with a little transformation in how we operate. We can still fill all your favorite blends and have a number of ways for picking it up locally, and also shipping right to your door. I am so grateful to what we cultivated over these past years and parts of me will miss the space that held so much laughter, conversation and tears, but I am also excited to get back to my roots, to continue my research and passion for sharing through clinical work, writing and educating with others. Come hang this Fri-sun and look out for future events, collab, offerings and more. For those who loved our staple products, you can find them through cafe after this weekend, and soon on our website again. Pictured here is me in beds of blue cohosh and goldenseal I’ve been learning with through tending & some three year old ginseng I started from seed!!
