✨ ARTIST FEATURE: CANDACEE WHITE (she/her) ✨white

Candacee is the first artist to join No Maidens who wasn’t already a close friend of Tina or Jes — though we’d all been floating in the same creative circles for a while. (Fun fact: Jes first met her in a conversation about “raptors,” which she assumed meant velociraptors, not birds of prey.)

Her art is absolutely stunning — remarkable, breathtaking, and full of life. Around the time she decided to step back from doing markets to focus on making art (and preparing for gallery and solo shows!), No Maidens was just starting up — perfect timing. We’re so lucky she chose to trust us to represent her work.

“Candacee is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and ultimate frisbee player. Her main squeeze is printmaking, which she has been working in for almost two years. She is very intrigued by etching and screenprinting. She gets very distracted when she sees new exciting things. She works on around nine art projects at a time. It's probably not the best way, but she's used to it by now. She has been to 87 countries. She thinks Tulsa is just fine.”

Artists like Candacee remind us exactly why we’re here — to make sure brilliant work still finds its audience, even when the artist would rather be in the studio than behind a booth.

🔥 ARTIST FEATURE: ROBERT HANCOCK (he/him) 🔥
robertchancock.com

The first artist to say hell yes to No Maidens — before there was a name, a logo, or even a real plan. Robert believed in this project from day one, and we’re damn lucky to have him in the mix.

Tina’s known him since the summer of 2000, when they were a couple of small-town weirdos working at Wal-Mart and figuring life out. In the years since, they’ve been through dating, hating each other, and everything in between — and now they’re solid friends and huge fans of each other’s work.

Robert’s art is sharp, darkly funny, and deeply human — skewering the systems that grind people down while celebrating the weirdness that keeps us going.

“I am a Tulsa-born artist who satirizes disaster capitalism for beer money. For me, art is primarily about expression. I believe you should express yourself through art, especially if you think you are bad at it. Entire worlds go unexpressed out of fear of what others might think. My advice: experiment, share your work, and try to connect with others through what makes you unique.”

Artists like Robert are the reason this collective exists — the proof that weird, fearless art deserves a platform.

✨ ARTIST FEATURE: MAGE HILLCOX (they/she/he)✨

Mage is absolutely one of the coolest people Tina has ever met, and forever her go-to for music recommendations. They also make some seriously cool art — we’ve got three state-themed witches (part of an ongoing series) and several pieces based on song lyrics (that still rule even if you don’t know the songs).

“Mage Hillcox holds no qualifications or expertise in anything except being a smartypants know-it-all who will die if they don't share every opinion they have. They can be frequently found hunched over their phone, murmuring about their latest hyperfixation and how capitalism ruined it. They emerge from this state only to share their newfound opinions, which as mentioned, they will die if they don't. We are all very worried about them.”

Artists like Mage are exactly what we’re fighting to make space for — weird, brilliant, unstoppable. Help us keep that going:

We're going to be highlighting some of our artists over the next month! Please also remember to check out our fundraiser at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/no-maidens-artist-collective #/ - we have reward tiers at $25 and $75! Next up is co-founder Jes McCutchen.

Jes (she/her) lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her partner and their kiddo. As well as a very particular we**ie dog named Fable Rose Pond. When she’s not writing/editing/publishing/following creative whims, she is working as a writing tutor. She loves board games, soft sci-fi shows, and using stickers in her planner.

Jes is also a co-founder and former editor for Horns And Rattles Press, an indie press located in Tulsa. Their first anthology “Fish Gather to Listen” came out summer 2023, and their second anthology “Bitter Become the Fields” came out summer 2024.

From Jes, No Maidens usually has original art (block prints, screen prints, sometimes collage buttons), and BOOKS! So many books! She also sometimes has socks (new but dyed) and upcycled clothing available.

We're going to be highlighting some of our artists over the next month! Please also remember to check the 🔗 in our bio to find out more about our fundraiser! First up is co-founder Tina Wall ().

Tina Wall (she/her) exists in this world like many of us do. She was born here in Tulsa, grew up in Sand Springs. She went away for her 20s and 30s, but now she’s back to make her 40s EVERYONE’S problem. She is an artist and chaos gremlin who works with data when she needs to pay rent or buy pet food. She is the co-founder of No Maidens Artist Collective, and the founder/editor/publisher of Dustbowl Dreams. She lives with her wonderfully understanding spouse, two dogs, two cats, and whatever the cats keep hunting at night.

From Tina, No Maidens usually has original art (canvases and coasters), jewelry, magnets, and bookmarks made from excess paint, prints, stickers, zines, and whatever else her weird brain comes up with.

No Maidens Artist Collective is having a fundraiser!

No Maidens is a Tulsa-based collective of artists and makers working to remove barriers to selling creative work. Chronic illness, caregiving, burnout, anxiety, limited inventory, safety concerns, lack of experience—there are a hundred reasons someone might not feel able to vend on their own. We make space anyway.

In order to cover start up costs such as website hosting, accounting software, display items, etc, we are having a fundraiser and giving you all the opportunity to get real art from real people who are really excited to be part of the Tulsa community.

The Indigogo Campaign runs for 30 days, and we have some great perks, including an invitation to a party at MUST where you'll be able to pick up your art from us! (We can also ship it If you aren’t local or can’t make it!)

Please share with your friends and family and anyone you think might find our projects cool! Links in bio to our website and the fundraiser.
