It’s all because of the yarn babies! 🧶👶🏻

My goal was to cover groceries. That was it.

Maybe $200 a week to just help us out while we transitioned to being a one income family.

But it turned into so much more and has been such a blessing to my family and countless others!

Is it easy running a business with 4 tiny humans climbing up stairs, pouring out bubble bath while they are fully clothed, playing with cocoa powder (IYKYK)?

NO. Not easy. My capacity has reached levels I didn’t realize it could.

Why did I ever think I was ever busy before I had kids? 😂 what was I even doing with my time?!

But my goodness it’s been fun. They’ve been there for it all. Helping pack boxes, strapped to my chest, and even learning how to give tutorials.

They don’t view me as “big boss woman.” They view me as Mama and that’s the best title I’ve ever held.

It was a full circle moment to get to sit on the couch with my son and watch UA be featured on national television without having to run to the garage to star shipping orders.

And none of it would be possible without YOU our customers! Thank you so much!

Feeing un-creative when you’re a creative person is a very un-fun feeling. Here’s what I do when it happens:

1️⃣ Stop forcing it
The creative well refills on its own timeline. Forcing it just burns you out faster.

2️⃣ Stop scrolling
You’re filling your head with everyone else’s creativity and leaving no room for your own.

3️⃣ Stop feeling like every project needs to be shared
Make something just for you. No photos. No captions. Just make.

4️⃣ Stop taking every project so seriously
Some projects are just for practice. Not everything needs to be an heirloom.

5️⃣ Stop stopping before you even start
Sometimes picking up the paintbrush, pencil, punch needle, etc. is the hardest part. Everything gets easier after you just start.

Did I miss any? What do you do to get out a of a rut?

Sometimes the project you started because you were in a slump, becomes the one you’re the most proud of.

I made this rug 3 summers ago. It was the biggest project I had ever tackled and I started it because I was feeling so uncreative at the time.

I made it in my sunroom amongst my children’s toys — we’ve added two more kids since then!

I worked on it over the course of my 3rd pregnancy and while the rug got larger so did my belly 😂

When I look at it now, I think about the tiny hands who loved putting in stitches with me and sitting in my lap while I worked. We talked about The Magic School bus and how which colors were our favorites.

It represents so much more than a creative project. It reminds me of a treasured season in my life when time was a little slower and my babies were still babies!

It’s like I embedded a memory in every single stitch and I treasure the process just as much as the finished project.

Who could have done this?! 🧶

I’m not sure if our criminal’s motivations were curiosity or mischief driven, but either way this can be fixed!

You may wonder if adding glue would have prevented it, possibly, but it also can deteriorate my yarn and make it impossible to fix if it were to happen anyway.

I like having the ability to fix something if possible.

The rug is going back in the playroom so it can be loved and enjoyed even if that means it needs a repair once every two years.

And to the person who did this, I will find you and I will tickle your toes!

It’s a mystery! 🕵️‍♀️🔍

I found this photo in my archive and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone. This girly is 5.5 now and has 3 younger siblings!

Some of you have been around since then and I just want to say thanks for following along and supporting The Urban Acres so I can do what I love most — be with my babies whilst making fabulous rugs 🥰

P.S. I’m cleaning out my rug yarn stash and you can get $3 off per skein with code RUGCLUB!

Introducing my newest yarn baby, Daisy Katherine 🌼

She is the sweetest little potato and we love her! Her big sister Dot is ready to drop out of preschool to take on the responsibilities of raising her. If Daisy keeps staying up until 1am I may have to take Dot up on that.

I am so blessed to have four healthy children and I also want to give a big thank you to everyone who has supported The Urban Acres over the years so that I can continue to raise my babies while also doing something I love.
