Happy intern Wednesday! This week’s intern is Liliana! 💙🌍💚
“Hello! My name is Liliana, and I am a senior at the UA majoring in Physiology and Medical Sciences, and double minoring in Gender and Women’s Studies and Mexican American Studies! I have been plant-based for about 6 years, and have always been environmentally conscious about consumer products from a young age. After graduation, I am pursuing a career in medicine, and my goal is to provide care for underserved populations. I chose my minors not only to reflect my identity as a Latina woman (with immigrant grandparents and an LGBTQ+ family), but to help me learn how I can advocate for those (who do not have a seat at the table) by bringing a folding chair to the table. I come from a family of educators, and am very passionate about teaching in the context of science and medicine. I feel that it is extremely important to help facilitate a learning environment that inspires students from underrepresented communities to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. Representation is incredibly important; through interning for the Bio/Diversity Project, I seek to help foster a learning environment that helps educate and empower young students to find their passions, and promote collaboration over competition. I am very excited to be joining the Bio/Diversity team this fall!”
