EVAN JONES TALK - 'Jones Collection of Arizona Minerals - Personal Favorites'

TFMG SPRING SHOWCASE 2026

The story of the Jones collection starts in the late 1940's in Connecticut when Bob Jones began to get serious about collecting minerals. Like many collections, it underwent a few transformations and changes of focus in the ensuing decades. By the late 1980's Bob's son Evan assumed curation, ultimately transforming it into an all Arizona locality collection. In this presentation, Evan shares the stories behind some of his favorite specimens and a few recent additions to the collection.

Save the date – our Spring Showcase is now just two months away!

From Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10, we’ll be hosting our Spring Showcase, bringing together collectors and enthusiasts for a wonderful weekend celebrating fine minerals.

The event will feature guest speakers, a special evening dinner and our excellent in-house dealers, each presenting an exceptional selection of mineral specimens.

If you’re planning a trip to Arizona, be sure to visit us at 465 W St Mary's Rd, Tucson for what promises to be a fantastic few days.

Wow – what a show! The 2026 Tucson Gem & Fine Mineral Show has been an outstanding success, surpassing even our highest expectations.

Building on the momentum of previous years, we were delighted to welcome record attendance once again. Our programme of talks proved especially popular, with nearly every presentation selling out – a true testament to the enthusiasm and passion of our mineral community.

We extend our sincere thanks to our exceptional exhibitors, our dedicated team, and our inspiring guest speakers, whose knowledge and generosity made this year’s show so memorable. Special appreciation also goes to Brother John’s for their superb catering in the Crystal Courtyard – it was enjoyed by all.

And last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who visited us at 465 W St Marys Rd. Your continued support means the world to us and we are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you.

We’re delighted to confirm that the dates for our 2027 show will be Friday, January 29 through Saturday, February 13 – so be sure to mark your calendars!

If that feels too far away, why not join us for one of our special Open Weekends? Our Spring Showcase will take place May 8–10, followed by the Thanksgiving Showcase on November 13–15.

We’re thrilled to welcome renowned US collectors Jim and Gail Spann to the gallery today.

At 2pm, Jim and Gail will give a talk on the “Diversity of the Spann Collection” - which is a sell out event!

They have also generously put together a special display of Tsumeb specimens from their collection, pictured, which you can explore in the conference room.

Our final major event of the weekend was the inaugural 2026 Van Pelt Award of Photographic Excellence, attended by some of the world's top mineralogical and gemological photographers.

Created by BlueCap Productions and co-sponsored by The Mineralogical Record and the Tucson Fine Mineral Gallery, this annual award will recognize the immense contribution the top mineral photographers in the world has made to our world. Generously hosted by the Tucson Fine Mineral Gallery, this event is sure to be one of the most popular events during the Tucson show. Each year a new photographer will be chosen to receive a custom-designed award created by Master Glass Artist Jeremy Sinkus out of Massachusetts, pictured.

For the first award, legendary mineral photographers Harold and Erica Van Pelt were chosen to be honored for the ground-breaking work they produced for multiple decades beginning in the early 70s when they started their mineralogical work by photographing the blue cap tourmalines from the Tourmaline Queen Mine.

While neither Harold nor Erica were able to travel to Tucson to accept their award, their daughter Yvonne Van Pelt attended the ceremony along with her son Harrison.

After the show, BlueCap Productions will take the award back to Los Angeles to present it to Harold and Erica directly in their studio.

We were also delighted to welcome renowned jewelry designer Mimi So during the weekend.

Based in New York, Mimi So is an award-winning jewelry designer and stylist for celebrities such as Jay-Z, Michelle Yeoh and Ashley Park, as well as for hit television shows including S*x and the City. She is the recipient of multiple honors, including a Spectrum Award and the AGTA People’s Choice Award.

In the photos, Diana Bruce from Crystal Classics is shown wearing Mimi’s award-winning “Cotton Candy” necklace, as well as a striking green and blue necklace – both exceptional examples of her distinctive design style.

Next on our weekend program of events was our spectacular Glitz and Glamour Gala Evening on Saturday.

It was wonderful to see everyone dressed up for what proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening spent with friends from the mineral community.
