DUE TO ANTICIPATED INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS, ALL CITY OF TUCKER FACILITIES WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, JANUARY 26. THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING IS RESCHEDULED TO 7 P.M. FEBRUARY 2.

The Winter Concert at Tucker Recreation Center tonight, January 23 at 7 p.m. is still on; however, TRC will close at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24.

Please be aware that our Public Works crews have a plan in place to proactively brine roads Saturday night and salt Sunday night with a police es**rt. Georgia Department of Transportation will prepare state routes.

You can report downed trees through the Public Works Request submission form on our website, tuckerga.gov, or call us at (678) 597-9040. Do not approach downed power lines. The City will coordinate with Georgia Power to ensure safety before addressing downed trees on power lines in the right-of-way.

We expect several downed trees. Please be patient with our Public Works teams as we prioritize major right-of-ways.

IF REPORTING A DOWNED TREE please include the address in your service request.

IF REPORTING A SIGNAL FAILURE please identify the intersection where the signal is located and note if the signal is in flash or completely dark.

Be aware of black ice. Driving conditions will be hazardous. Use caution if traveling and stay home if possible. First responders may be unable to reach you. Check road conditions at 511ga.org.

We express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and staff of Hickory House owner George Jackson. He was our friend and neighbor who regaled us with great stories from his long life. He will be missed but never forgotten.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of one of Tucker’s finest, Bill Rosenfeld. He was by trade a master jeweler, owner of Rosenfeld Jewelry. But his love was service. He had been on the Tucker City Council since the beginning of cityhood, President of the Tucker CID, a Rotarian, and many other organizations dedicated to making lives better. Bill was one of the good ones, reasonable in his assessments, jovial in his attitudes; one of those fellows that puts you in a better humor by just being in his presence. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his wide circle of friends, family, and constituents. God bless his memory.

Lots of people took advantage of the beautiful weekend weather to come outside from behind their doors. I saw a lot of happy faces while walking in the park yesterday albeit 10 feet from my kids. The quarantine is weighing on our willpower to not enjoy our environs.
The decision by the Governor of Georgia to open certain businesses last Friday has been discussed throughout the nation. Curiously, spas, tattoo parlors and bowling alleys were Gov Kemps's first establishments to be selected to resume restricted operations.
While I encourage everyone to continue to follow the national and local guidelines set forth for the pandemic, one wonders would it be wiser to focus not on which businesses open first but focus on the general health of the patrons who first frequent the stores? Should we not first send our healthiest citizens out in the environment and into public places to test the air?
For example should not very healthy people say 57 and younger with an excellent health record and asymptomatic resume somewhat normal activities first? Two weeks or so go by with no spike in cases could open the door for a second wave of people who are older, 67 and younger, but who have excellent health history and are asymptomatic start resuming normal activities.
If a few weeks pass after the second wave of little contagion should give the least healthy among us no matter the age to go out fully protected as possible and should take all precautions to avoid airborne viri.
If the illness spikes at any stage we can shut down or scale back.
Beating the Pandemic is a process but its the population we need to concentrate on not the places they might visit.

We are learning that it takes discipline and willpower to stay inside in order to abide by all the reasonable and intelligent safe practices laid out by the health officials and government leaders.

We look forward to resuming our normal activities when it is appropriate: going out, restaurants, shopping, even transporting kids to school and all their activities.

We are going to acknowledge that we have been taking for granted freedom of movement and just getting out of the house. We are also going to realize that going to "Real" stores to shop and buy goods is fun and fulfilling,' something the internet can not replace.

Consequently I foresee much pent up demand released. There will be lots of people in stores, handling the products and making purchases.

It's the old saying, "you don't know what you have missed until it's not there."

See you at Tucker Meridian very soon. I hope!
