As we create our strong and beautiful travel gear together, daily interactions not only provide jobs but also support.

OUTsideIN is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a vision to come alongside women in recovery and their children to enable them to achieve a balanced, joyful, productive life apart from substance abuse and other life controlling issues. In a small workshop in rural West Tennessee we come alongside women who have experienced a variety of life-altering struggles that have kept them from succeeding in the main

stream workforce. Because our workplace is intentionally structured to train, nurture and encourage, women who have been chronically unemployed learn marketable skills and good workplace attitudes and behaviors. As a result, our travel bags are made with careful attention to quality and detail that make them unique and sought after by those who understand that their buying decisions can be powerful factors in creating the social outcomes that improve all our lives. We are strong women on a journey making travel gear for yours.

The Outside Inn’s garden has been fruitful! These were picked by some residents in the past week and there are plenty more still growing. It’s always fun to see the fruits of your labor☺️

At The OUTside INN, we believe:

Safety is not a luxury.
It is the foundation for transformation.

Many women and children arrive carrying years of trauma, fear, instability, and survival patterns that once protected them.

But healing cannot happen while the nervous system still believes it is under threat.

That’s why we focus first on creating safety.

Just like a caterpillar inside a cocoon, transformation requires a space where the old survival framework can begin to dissolve so something new can emerge.

Healing is not weakness.
Rest is not failure.
Safety is not optional.

Sometimes people simply need a cocoon safe enough for transformation to occur.

Happy Day to Crystal Fox for celebrating 9 years of freedom from the grip of substances. Not only has she walked away from that part of her life, now she is leading others at The OUTside INN on the same path! She shows up every day with that beautiful smile and positive attitude that makes everyone know, "It's gonna be OK." I love this lady and love working with her. She inspires me and I'm grateful that she is part of our program.

Thirteen years ago I celebrated her first sobriety birthday with Lisa Salazar. She had come to OUTsideIN to work just three months into that journey. Each year I am more amazed at the way she approaches each day as though it is a precious gift, which of course it is. She has been a beautiful example of how working shoulder to shoulder in a healing centered workplace can support recovery. I am humbled to have stood with her though some tough times as well as triumphs and she has stood with me through mine. The most special thing that happened yesterday when we marked this milestone was that Lisa turned to the other ladies in the room, some who are in early recovery, and told them how proud she was of them and how brave they are. I will never forget that rather than focus on her own success she chose to encourage others who may not be all that sure they can achieve the same thing. Thank you Lisa for 13 years of showing the world that “we do recover”.

Had a fun day visiting with the ladies from on their first visit to Troy. They carry our product all year round, but this was the first time they actually got to come see the workshop! They also got a tour of The Outside Inn to see all the progress made out there. If you’re in the Memphis area, be sure to check them out!
