I love mums but they are easily my hardest to work with for this reason šŸ˜Ŗ

Unfortunately this is a scenario that you canā€™t really prevent or help. I pull my mums slightly early to let them finish up in a container with no layered silica just whateverā€™s left on the sides when I empty it. Usually another week. This is one of the few flowers I pull early.

Removing silica post drying is SO EASY! (Most of the time)

I like to use a soft bristle fan brush to gently agitate the inside of my petal to release any stuck on silica. A fingernail, paintbrush, end of a makeup brush, chopstick, or really anything with a rounded pointy tip or bristles will do the trick.

If your flower went in super wet, as in there was water on the outside in any way, the silica will actually FUSE to the petal. Itā€™s very very important to dry off your flowers to remove any additional outside moisture! Thatā€™s really the only time I cannot get silica to just brush off.
