Today, on Juneteenth, we honor freedom, reflect on our shared history, and celebrate the stories that have shaped our community.

At West Ridge Mall, we are proud to host "Our Stories" an exhibit that recognizes the generations of African Americans who helped build Topeka and whose influence continues to be felt throughout our city.

From early settlers and Freedom Seekers to the vibrant neighborhoods they established, Topeka's Black community has played a vital role in education, faith, business, politics, industry, and the arts. Their stories are woven into the fabric of our city and deserve to be remembered, honored, and shared.

Created in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision, this exhibit celebrates the legacy of African American Topekans while inspiring future generations to continue pursuing equality, justice, and opportunity for all.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we invite our community to take time to explore this powerful exhibit, learn more about our local history, and honor those whose courage, perseverance, and vision helped shape the Topeka we know today.
