OJAI! 🫧
Join us Saturday May 30th in store to get your hands dirty learning the art of fermentation and get set up to start fermenting at home!
Fermentation is one of the oldest forms of food preservation — a collaboration between humans and microbes that transforms simple ingredients into nutrient-dense, living foods 💥
This workshop is designed to demystify fermentation for both beginners and those already experimenting in their kitchens, connecting traditional Asian techniques to modern low-waste living. We will explore the foundational principles of fermentation — salt, time, and environment — and how these elements guide beneficial microbial activity to safely preserve and enhance food, reducing waste while deepening our relationship to what we consume.
Together, we will walk through sauerkraut, pickled onions, kombucha, and an introduction to longer ferments like miso, with a live kombucha brewing setup to illustrate the full cycle from first ferment to second fermentation using juices and teas 🍵
Each participant will leave with a SCOBY to begin their own home practice, along with the confidence to create ferments without complicated equipment — working with living systems that continue to evolve, transform, and nourish long after the workshop ends.
