❤️ In this group, there is no difference between “wants” and “needs.” ❤️

Need doesn’t always look like financial hardship. Sometimes need looks like wanting a night off from cooking after a long week. Sometimes it looks like replacing something small that broke at just the wrong time. Sometimes it looks like reaching out because someone needs connection, kindness, or to feel less alone.

What we see on the outside never tells the full story of what someone may be carrying. Some members are comfortable sharing openly when they are struggling, while others quietly ask for things that bring comfort, ease, or a sense of belonging — and all of that is valid here.

This group exists to build community, not to measure worth or compare circumstances. Every member is equal. Every ask is allowed. Every gift is given freely and without pressure. Giving is always a choice, and scrolling past is always okay.

Our group is officially open again for new member requests. If you’re planning to invite someone, please make sure they know approval is not automatic and that all entry questions must be fully answered in order to be approved.

A quick reminder of our membership requirements:
• Must be 21 years or older
• Must live in Stephens County
• Must not be a member of any other Buy Nothing groups

Since it is September 1st, and we added this rule during the summer, it seems like a good time to post this reminder. There can no longer be posts giving or requesting animals, lost pet posts or attempts to re-home animals.

There are plenty of other groups that are available for these purposes.

Let's talk about private messages! We have rules about who can send private messages and under what circumstances.

Our groups are similar to living in a neighborhood. We want to be good neighbors. When you want to talk to your neighbor at their home, do you go open the front door and walk right in talking about what is on your mind? (That will get a quick call to 911 at this writer's house!) No you ring the door bell or knock on the door and wait for an answer before you start talking.

So think first to request to be able to send a private message to another member. That's the equivalent of ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door. Once you have permission to send a message, then you may send it as long as it is not to put pressure on someone regarding a gift.

Administrators have an open door policy for our members. You may message any of us at any time.

We have done away with curb alerts. If you personally own what is at your curb, we ask that you consider making a flash "give" post and follow all of our usual procedures.

If you do not own it or it is not at your curb, then please invite the neighbor or friend to join and make their own post. If the person is under the age of 21, it's certainly acceptable to post on their behalf and involve them in choosing the recipient!
