Our ducks have got the memo that Spring is right around the corner... 11 ducks x 11 daily= a lot of eggs! If you have ever wanted to try duck eggs 🥚now is the time! They are rich, delicious, and you MIGHT never go back to chicken. We are on year 8 now with them in our diets.

🍳We love them baked in cheesecake, quiches, crepes, homemade noodles, homemade ice cream custard, and for breakfast! D e l i c I o u s !!

💗Hellebores, Hellebuyck, and Hockey🏒...

What do they have in common? Are YOU a fan?!
They are TOUGH. They LOVE the cold.
They're GOLD medal worthy. I'm a fan of both!

Hellebores are evergreens and can withstand some of the harshest winters (down to about -30F).They were used in ancient Greece as a medicine to clense the body and mind. Hellebores bloom when gardens need hope the most.

Its cold, cloudy and dreary out today and ours are starting to bloom. 💗 We planted several our first year in '22 and just keep adding..at almost 100 this year. 🫣 My grandma used to grow them, but always called them a "winter rose." Never knew their real name as a kid, but I think its because the word "hell" was in them 🤣.

🌷Tulips are a PERFECT flower... they can stand alone in a gorgeous vase and remain the focus. These were for a great customer of mine. She asked for her favorite vase to be full of tulips for her granddaughters Birthday party... and they ARE the prettiest pink for a party!

🌷Tulips have made a permanent spot on our to-grow list for this time of year!

💗The first batch of our hydro tulips are ready! I LOVE when an experiment works! No dirt needed! We have monitored these tulips carefully! 💗
Our hydro checklist:
✔️ give clean water/dump dirty
✔️ check root growth
✔️ check for disease
✔️ write down data/draw findings
✔️ timed their lights so we know HOW to speed up and slow down their growth rate to hit V-day.

It began as our homeschool experiment....

Our 📚hypothesis was to see if bulbs would grow roots, leaves, and flowers in only water AND if special hydroponic trays were needed.

Our tulips bulbs were planted on a spike mat, placed in bus bins and then filled partly with water on Dec 24th and then again on the 26th. They needed to establish a good root system first and it needed to be cold where they were to mimic winter. 🌷Tulips NEED weeks of cold before they even think about blooming...its called vernalization...its their long winters nap.

We've dumped the water💦 every few days, gave them fresh, turned their lights on and what we expected has in fact worked! Bulbs are amazing. The timing is what we are trying to figure out now. Slowing them down a bit to hit Valentines Day on the nose!

I think you all will be very happy with what is coming!!! I know G sure is! It's a great way to teach him patience...and me too!
