⚠️ LIVESTOCK OWNERS ⚠️
As the new week begins and our farmers, ranchers and customers continue doing what they love, please know King’s Korner will continue to monitor the New World screwworm (NWS) infestation. Your livelihoods remain a top priority for us.
This condition is preventable and treatable, so there is no need to panic. A visual inspection of your animals daily will assist with protection. Some clinical signs may include:
- Larvae in any open wounds
- Significant wounds more than 15mm long
- Bloody discharge, draining of wound
- Foul odor
- Loss of appetite
- Head shaking, discomfort
- Self isolation from the herd
We are aware of current cases reported in South Texas and are working with local veterinarians and vendors to provide treatment options, if and when necessary for our region in Texas. Should you suspect any signs or symptoms, please remember to:
- Reach out to your veterinarian for isolation protocols and treatment options
- Do not relocate the individual animal, potential of cross-contamination
- Report to the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) at 800-550-8242
