REH was born from a hobby I developed during my career in the military. With the evolution of tactical gear, I was issued a wide variety of equipment. Unfortunately, much of the gear I was issued just didn't fit into what my actual mission was. Thus my hobby of making tactical gear for myself and for fellow Soldiers was started. It all started with an old Singer 201 that my wife inherited from her
mother. After fixing up the sewing machine, I started to make load carrying equipment and various other gear. In fact, the chest harness I wore in Iraq was made in my garage. After I returned from Kuwait/Iraq, a friend was discussing the short comings of some gear bags in the store he was working at. We got to talking and he asked me if I could design and build a bag for tools that would fit on top oh his BMW R1200 GSA aluminum pannier. The first design (model 0.1) didn't do what was needed. The second (model 0.5) had promise, but just didn't work well. The fourth (Model 1.0) was better. Then Life happened. Life, unfortunately, has a way of changing things. Due to this 'Part Time" gig I have (the California National Guard) I found myself being deployed to Afghanistan. On top of a 7000 foot mountain. For a year. It was cold (-13 degrees at times). It was humid. It was dusty. It had beautiful sunsets. I entered into what I hope are life long friendships. I came back without a direction. After much thought and the urging of my lovely wife and from my friends, I decided to start Rugged Excursion Hardware. My goal is simple, to create a series of motorcycle accessories that are high quality, perform well, and are made in the U.S.A. I have received great feedback from the cases I have sold, and have incorporated many of the suggestions and critiques from users and admirers into the designs. Thank you for visiting and your interest in our products. Respectfully,
