π FOODS THAT CAN INTERFERE WITH YOUR MEDICATIONS
Did you know that what you eat or drink can change how some medications work?
It doesnβt always mean you have to avoid these foods completely β sometimes timing, portion, and consistency are what matter.
π Grapefruit + certain medications
Grapefruit can increase the levels of some medications in your bloodstream, including certain cholesterol and blood pressure medications.
π₯¬ Vitamin K-rich foods + Warfarin
Spinach, kale, broccoli, and other vitamin K-rich foods donβt necessarily need to be avoided. Consistency is key, because sudden changes in vitamin K intake can affect warfarin.
π₯ Dairy/Calcium + certain antibiotics
Calcium can interfere with the absorption of some antibiotics. You may need to separate them β ask your pharmacist about the correct timing.
β Coffee + Levothyroxine
Coffee can reduce levothyroxine absorption when taken too close together. Your pharmacist can help you build the right morning routine.
π High-potassium foods + certain medications
Some blood pressure medicines and potassium-sparing diuretics can increase potassium levels. Adding lots of potassium-rich foods or supplements may not be appropriate for everyone.
π· Alcohol + sedatives/sleep medications
This combination can significantly increase drowsiness, dizziness, and impairment β and in some cases can be dangerous.
β οΈ Important: Never stop a medication or eliminate healthy foods from your diet based on a social media post. Medication-food interactions depend on the specific drug, dose, and your health conditions.
