Since I started traveling in evangelism in 1997, I have heard many say, "Baptists don't write." I have never believed that, because I know several individuals, both preachers and laymen, who do write. The truth is many don't have any major publishing & marketing company to promote their work. This alone has been a hurdle for any aspiring author to overcome.
In November of 2024, while holding meetings with Pastor David Townsley at Riverside Baptist Church of Terryville, Connecticut, we were discussing this matter. He said, "Dwight, I would like to see a website where independent Baptist authors could feature their work." I replied, "For years, I've wanted to see the same thing!" After some months of research, we discovered that actually, there are scores and scores of self-published, independent Baptist authors. So we continued praying and moving in this direction.
The result is a brand new website! Brendan Cherry has taken this challenging task and done a fantastic job with the site. It features twenty-five authors from across the country. Some are pastors. Some are evangelists. Some are laymen. Each one is a faithful Christian, with a godly testimony.
Our goal is to highlight these authors over the next several weeks and then include new authors both here and on the site. We would like this to develop into something where independent Baptist pastors and evangelists and missionaries and laymen can find new resources on a wide variety of topics. We want this to be a place where new or already self-published authors can feature their work.
Our desire is that this would encourage independent Baptists that we do write. It is very likely there are many other authors, whom we have not yet discovered, with good material to offer. Already featured, are books on church leadership, biographies, marriage, preaching, commentaries and more. We will eventually feature sound teaching material, church resources, and other helpful topics.
Second, we pray this will encourage independent Baptists that we can write. There are many among our ranks who may have a book they could write, but they don't know how to overcome the hurdles to get it in print. On the site, we have folks listed who proofread, design and layout books. They can and do help walk aspiring authors through the process that will get the book in both print and digital form. This will help remove these hurdles.
Third our desire is to encourage young preachers and new believers to search for spiritual materials in a healthy place and not at the feet of major publishers, influenced by disobedience, unbelief, false doctrine, and/or carnal thinking.
Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit would empower us as we launch this effort; that the Lord Jesus would receive all the honor and glory through this endeavor and that He would guide us each step along the way.
