Why Collectors Love Montgomery Ward Mini Bikes

Although Sears often receives much of the attention in discussions of catalog mini bikes, Montgomery Ward machines have earned a loyal following among collectors and enthusiasts. Many riders have fond memories of receiving a Wards mini bike as a gift, riding one on family property, or seeing one featured in the pages of a well-worn catalog.

Part of their appeal lies in their relative rarity. Because fewer Montgomery Ward mini bikes survived compared to some competing brands, original examples can be difficult to find today. This scarcity makes well-preserved and correctly restored machines especially desirable among collectors. Dan.

From my new eBook due out in late June. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, Sears had become one of the largest mini bike retailers in America. Models such as the Runabout became household names, and annual catalog releases were eagerly anticipated by young enthusiasts across the country. New designs, larger engines, and improved features appeared almost every year as Sears competed with Montgomery Ward, JC Penney, and other retailers for market share. Dan.
