Sure, it’s new comic book day, but why not take some time for a look back at the week that was? Here it is, Ash Ave Comics’ Top Ten Best Sellers for the week of February 25- March 3. As always, we share our top selling titles for the week, and then, in the second slide, we post the top selling titles as reported by Bleeding Cool and compiled from all of the shops using the ComicHub point of sale system to get a look at how our customers’ habits stack up to the broader picture of comic book sales.
This is one of those weeks where our store sales display a clear departure from top sellers at large, with the two biggest standouts being our #4 and #5 titles, both coming from . The first is Murder Drones issue one, a licensed title based on the popular sci-fi horror comedy animated series that streams on YouTube. We took a bit of a gamble on our orders, but the customer enthusiasm was there, and it paid off. Writer Wyatt Kennedy has a solid fan base from his series Nights at Image Comics, and artist Jo Mi-Gyeong has put in the work with her solid visual storytelling on previous series for Boom! Studios. Customer orders are looking pretty good for the second issue, so we expect to see more impressive sales going forward. The second Oni title landing on the list comes from our pals and with the second issue of their widely acclaimed new mini-series Spirit of the Shadows. It’s not surprising that two locals with a history of solid comic storytelling placed as highly in the list, especially when considering how strong our customer feedback was on the first issue.
The remainder of the list more or less matches up with the bigger picture, with Detective Comics sliding in at the tenth spot for our shop’s sales. What will dominate this week? We shall see, as we ordered high on the Absolute reprints, as well as on the new Darth Maul series from Marvel. Can a Star Wars series crack the top ten? Stay tuned!
