Brand new! Campbell’s Heart of Texas Book Club: Texas Writers, Then and Now; Texas Tales, True and False

First meetup is

Each meeting will focus on either a Texas writer or a book about (or set in) Texas.

The kickoff title is HORSEMAN, PASS BY by Larry McMurtry. Published in 1961, HORSEMAN was the first novel to be released by this quintessential Texas writer. The book was filmed as the Academy Award winning film, HUD in 1963. HORSEMAN is a coming-of-age story set in the ranch lands of North Texas where a young man who worships his swaggering uncle, learns the painful truth about the man’s character. HORSEMAN is a modern day Western, depicting the collision between two essential Texas cultures: cattle and oil.

This book club will be led by Frank Campbell, a native Austinite who spent thirty years in the retail book business working for Barnes & Noble. Frank also worked for fifteen years as a freelance writer for various publications. He’s currently retired and living in Manor.
