As you know, over the past two years I have been working on developing a product that is aimed at helping athletes be better defenders. What started out as a tool that I made for training my own NBA guys, quickly turned in to a bigger opportunity after programs like Duke University saw what I was using and wanted it for their training. The Defensive Slide Bar allows coaches, trainers and athletes to increase activation and strengthen specific lower limb muscle groups used during lateral slides, while ensuring proper wide stance foot work. While it is suitable for all skill levels in basketball from NBA to middle and high school, the Defensive Slide Bar can be used for training in any sport that uses side-to-side lateral shuffling or requires lower-limb muscle activity.
Dr. Max Paquette, Dr. Douglas Powell and graduate assistant Alexander Carnall with the University of Memphis’ School of Health Studies have spent the last year training and testing athletes with the bar. We are excited about the initial results found in the Acute Comparisons Report. Use of the bar increases specific lower limb muscle activity from 27% - 33% while ensuring that athletes have proper wide stance foot work. Those who are doing slide work with the bar get more muscle activation. When athletes and coaches are looking for every competitive advantage, this is significant. The final results of the validation study and training plan are being finalized and will be available in the coming months. I look forward to sharing these results with you.
In the meantime, please visit my website (itrainfundamentals.com) for more information on the Defensive Slide Bar and the results found in the Acute Comparisons Report. Coaches, I encourage you to share this information with your sports performance staff too and to give the bar a try. We already have a number of top athletic programs in the country using the bar, let’s add your program to the list. DM me directly if you have any questions related to using the bar!
