Over the years I’ve built (hoarded) a little stash of new and vintage textiles and I knew it was time to make them up into a collection to share with you. I have sewn some one-of-a-kind and few-of-a-kind pillow covers and loved every minute of being more involved in the “making” part of Fair + Simple. Some of the pieces were remnants and joined together with seams that were highlighted with exposed selvage, hand stitching, or staggered stripes.

A full on blizzard has hit Southern Oregon where Fair + Simple is headquartered! We’re leaning into this week of intermittent electricity and school cancellations with board games, snow forts, sledding, and hot chocolate.
A package full of cozy things from Peru came last week with new arrivals and a fresh restock. These items are so special because they are single origin from the fiber to the production. It is the finest fibers the world has to offer with organic and fair trade certifications, and is made by a talented co-op of single mother’s in the rural town of Huanta. Each and every order matters, so not even a snow storm could keep me from sharing.
Use code “snowday” through Sunday for 20% all items made by this single mother’s group in Peru. Packages will ship next week once we’ve melted. 🫠❄️

In recent years there has been a growing trend of opting out of this consumer-driven day, and spending time in other ways. I opted-out for several years myself as an adult and I can definitely see the merit of this especially directly following a day centered around thankfulness. But, my feelings have decidedly changed about Black Friday and here’s why.

Fair + Simple is a woman-owned company, home-based in Southern Oregon. Normally it’s contained to that little studio in the corner, but this year it spilled over into our family room.
Invest in a woman; change the world.
That’s happening right here in my own home, and across the globe. I know this year is rocky with the economy, and we are feeling that like many others. No order is lost on me and I am very grateful for each and every order. Thank you, -Molly

Last year we offered an early bird sale and it was a hit, so we're doing it again this year! We hope that this alleviates stress through your holiday season, so you can plan and have all your gifts ready when it's best for you. If this week is too busy, we'll have another holiday sale on November 25th-28th.
Through Friday, use code “EARLYBIRD” for 20% off the entire shop.
Ps. How is it November already!!

Yesterday Fair + Simple setup a market in a 100 year old barn with several other local makers in Southern Oregon. To keep it simple, I only brought jewelry, hand towels, and washcloths with special market pricing: $20.
I wanted to do this for non-locals because you all have supported women-made and fair trade from afar, so F+S is having it's first ever virtual market today! If only I could bring you the live music, rustic setting, and crêpes too :).
Locals! Join me tomorrow at The Greenwood Market (3045 Bellinger Ln, Medford) from 11-4. I’ll be bringing towels and jewelry, all priced at $20. Keepin’ it simple! The following day I’ll have a virtual market with the same deal for non-locals to stock up on fair trade and women-made gifts ❤️
And today I got to laser engrave this signage . If you open up your camera, it will scan the QR code and bring you to the F+S website. Feeling pretty snazzy 💃🏼

It’s a packaging kind of week. I know some people loathe the monotony of tasks like this, but I like doses of it after the headier work of the mornings. It lets my mind sort things out. And when I get tired of thinking, I turn on podcasts, or most recently Schitt’s Creek (David is my fav 🤣who’s yours?, thanks for the rec ). And literally each and EVERY order means the world! I can’t imagine when I won’t do a happy dance inside when someone chooses F+S ❤️❤️

I’ll let you in on a little secret - the dish mat in this photo has actually been in constant use for nearly half a year. It still looks brand new after several washings so we didn’t bother switching it out for a new one for the product photo. THAT is how well they wash.

It was like falling in love. After running a handmade business for nearly a decade, a seed was planted in me by the fair trade movement. I grew inspired by several companies who were using business to help others, and I knew I was meant to be a part of it. One day, it erupted into a huge dream for Fair + Simple. I hardly slept or ate for three days when the idea struck me for the Fair+Simple Card. It fell from the ceiling and I went for it, both feet in. It’s a card that you give to a friend, and they can redeem it for any single item in an ethically-sourced collection. A niche, something new to bring to the table. A way to respect customers, and impact people around the world at the same time.
The heart and soul of Fair + Simple is targeted job creation for people in marginalized areas of need. And not just any job, but good jobs with fair living wages in safe work environments which respect and dignify the producer or artisan rather than exploit and compromise. The people who make the products in this collection are the heartbeat of the company, not just a means to an end.
And you, dear reader, thank you for your mindfulness and care for those who are behind making the items you give and enjoy. There is a story, and sometimes even a signature, behind each gift.
Gift giving is my love language, handmade is close to me, and serving others is a privilege. This is where I fit.
