The Sun enters Virgo on August 22, and this year I’m looking at the season through the myth of Demeter and Demophon.
Demeter could not control Persephone’s descent into the underworld, but with Demophon, she could control the process. She could nourish him, shape his development, and try to make him into something beyond mortal limitation. That is where the myth opens one of Virgo’s harder questions: when does care stop serving another person and start becoming an attempt to control what they become?
Virgo Season can help us refine, heal, organize, and improve our lives, but it can also expose the fear beneath perfectionism, over-functioning, and compulsive caretaking. Sometimes we are not trying to help because something needs fixing. We are trying to make sure we never feel powerless again.
