Here is one of my latest unfinished projects…

We call it the mystery dress as there is so much about it that we didn’t get. I began this dress a few summers ago with both Clara and Sarah taking a pass at tracing the pattern. Would love to finish it as it is somewhat together and I have made piping and Clara choose these playful polka dot buttons. My stash closet is not so much filed with uncut fabric as it is with unfinished projects!

Totally tropical is a two piece ensemble that's resort-ready. The skirt was created first as a standalone piece. Made from Burda 8199, a bridal dress skirt pattern that has princess seams, it is fitted in the hips and flares out, ending in handkerchief points at the hem. My fabric is a lively rayon tropical print lined with green China silk. The top is Style pattern 2282. It has wide straps, a square neckline with a cutout V at the center front. The panel seams fit to the hip and flare out a bit at the hemline. The top was cut so the print matches the skirt perfectly.

My Bubbles dress is featured in the September 2012 issue of Thread's Magazine in Reader's Closet. Here is Apple Annie (Anne Kendall) wearing Sandra Betzina V1210 dress made from an AAF ITY knit that is 90% poly-microfiber, 10% lycra. Loose-fitting, pullover dress, below mid-calf at center front, curving downward into an angled hemline at side seams. Armholes are slightly cut-in, with a self fabric or contrast V neckband, sleeve inset and ties. I choose a belt over the tie, skipped the sleeve insets, serged most seams together using a 4-thread stretch knit setting. Hems were made using a twin needle. My neckband is piped with a tiny black contrasting knit. Fun dress to wear and oh so comfortable!

It was love at first sight when this whimsical fish print from Nanette Lepore arrived at Apple Annie Fabrics. I created a skirt from this 100% silk crepe beauty using Vogue #2745, a dress pattern that I morphed into a skirt. With its shaped hem begging for a narrow serged edge, I engaged my trusty old Elna Pro5DC threaded with Maxi-lock Stretch in my upper looper to create a floaty lettuce edged hem. The horizontal fine-line striped top is made from a ponte knit taking this ensemble to a new level with a mixed prints look! Burdastyle #117 from 10/12 is the pattern I used for the top.
