It was love at first sight when this whimsical fish print from Nanette Lepore arrived at Apple Annie Fabrics. I created a skirt from this 100% silk crepe beauty using Vogue #2745, a dress pattern that I morphed into a skirt. With its shaped hem begging for a narrow serged edge, I engaged my trusty old Elna Pro5DC threaded with Maxi-lock Stretch in my upper looper to create a floaty lettuce edged hem. The horizontal fine-line striped top is made from a ponte knit taking this ensemble to a new level with a mixed prints look! Burdastyle #117 from 10/12 is the pattern I used for the top.

FABULOUS FABRIC, SUCH A FUN DRESS!
The UPS dropped them mid-store after hefting the heavy fabric pkgs up the stairs. The class went silent. Susan exclaimed..."we're not leaving here til she opens them"! This gorgeous linen was gone in a flash...

WEDDING BOUQUET

Here is a dress I made for a fabulous destination wedding in South Carolina. Starting with Vogue 8894 and a print mesh, I added length and eliminated the center front and center back seams. The ruffles for the neckline and sleeve hems are my wrinkle and uninterrupted sewing time while flying to SC allowed for the completion of the sleeve edges! Made with a serger for the most part, I chose a lightweight beaulon side zipper which I hand-picked. A narrow hem utilizing my favorite Maxi-lock Stretch in the upper looper finished all my hems. Underneath I wore a slip made in a complimentary turquoise colored silk/lycra stretch georgette. The wedding was held outside on grass so wearing a wedge made the most sense.

Happy Mother's Day!

Meet Barbara Roberts from Swansea,MA. A rather amazing mother who brought up six children after my dad was killed in a plane crash @ age 42. I was a freshman @ FIT, my brother Stephen had just celebrated his first birthday. She hated having her picture taken but somehow I convinced her we should take it under her favorite Kwanzan Cherry tree. It's my favorite shot of her, taken on Mother's Day 2007 in her yard, the last Mother's Day she would celebrate.

From my photo collection of sewing friends near and far, meet Sandra, my first ever mail order customer who lives in Brussels. She found me after reading “Fabulous Fabrics By Mail” an article Threads Magazine published many years ago which launched me overnight into the fabric mail order business, ready or not! This photo was taken in Paris in 2001 with Sandra wearing an amazing jacket made from Apple Annie Fabrics double-faced wool/lycra featuring perfectly executed leather welt pockets, bound buttonholes and matching buttons. The Elna Lotus she’s holding had belonged to another sewing student’s Swiss grandmother and was headed for the family yard sale! Remembering that she was a collector of machines, I asked if she’d be interested in owning it. It then became my carry on! https://www.appleanniefabrics.com/
