And Every Lad May Be Aladdin (Crackers in Bed) by Norman Rockwell was an advertisement for Edison Mazda in 1920.

It's part of a series about adventure, enchantment, and safety of childhood. The boy is reading in bed, immersed in the story, living in a different world. The details are great, as with many of Rockwell's artworks, the view outside, the lights at the neighbors, the stars in the sky, the cord of the shades stuck in the curtains, the painting in the wall. Works of Rockwell are often a real discovery journey.

"It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it."

It’s hard to believe it’s been more than a month since we shut down online sales for a spell.

Respectrum Arts/Books has always been about finding places that need support and making a concerted effort to be there for whomever is in front of us.

This has had us take on a variety of roles on a variety of endeavors. Currently, we are in a very public role. Public servants are required to give up their stake in any private money making endeavor that may even have an appearance of being able to profit from that public position.

So the bookstore and art endeavors are on hiatus.

In the month before: we shipped obscure novels to a musician in Kentucky, found local history for a local politician, sent work horse handbooks to an off-grid mule farmer out west… and the list goes on.

Right now, β€˜right books into right hands’ is still a mantra. Still filling some Little Free Libraries and thumbing through perhaps helpful books for our team to make that mantra reality.

This is just a post to explain the disappearing act and why we choose not to continue with online sales right now. The books are safe, we will pop-up again someday, and we will still fulfill some wholesale placing of books to shops looking for specific inventory, as time allows.

Hope everyone finds a way into reading this summer. We are always learning! We are always happy to hear from you!

A bit of book humor for your evening. πŸ™‚β˜˜οΈβœ¨πŸ“šπŸ’š

"Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read."
β€” Groucho Marx

Classic Groucho: wit wrapped in absurdity. This joke about books and dogs isn’t just funny β€” it celebrates reading while playfully poking at logic. Humor and intellect were Marx’s signature blend. Absurdity makes truth more memorable.
